Can't Connect when not in room

mrsnicoleryan

My Google home works fine with the doorbell but when I try to view my living room camera through the home device, if I'm sitting in the room and reboot it shows the camera. But when I leave the house, I'm unable to view the camera.  It says connecting forever then times out.

I rebooted the wifi and home screen.

WiFi is such high frequency that it does not penetrate through walls well. The 5GHz band is less crowded but penetrates walls far less easily. You may be closer to an interference source. For example your neighbour's router or your microwave oven.

Hi mrsnicoleryan,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers and smart camera and doorbell are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

MikeClark2000 is correct. Being able to monitor your home with a smart camera keeps you at ease, however, it would be great if you are in the area where your Wi-Fi can reach your monitoring  device. Also, you mentioned that it’s when you leave your house that you’re unable to see the live feed. Have you checked if your mobile data is on? If not, could you enable it and try to view your camera again? If yes, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers and last, your smart camera.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan
