Can’t link Nanoleaf to my Google home app

Doggo1
Community Member

Hi I’ve been trying to connect my Nanoleaf to my Google home mini and the app Google Home end it fails. I’ve tried all possible troubleshooting and it’s not working. It seems there is a problem in the last two steps that it doesn’t link Nanoleaf to the other providers I can see the rest of my devices, but not in Nanoleaf. In the past, I was able to look at my devices, but not now there was a thread before with a previous explanation and steps and it still doesn’t work. Thanks.

Are they setup and working okay in the Nanoleaf Smarter Series app?

Yes they work well in the App. But if my phone is out of reach they don’t react.

What steps are you trying? Did you try these steps?

  1. Open the Google Home app
  2. Tap the + icon at the top left
  3. Tap Set up device
  4. Tap Works with Google
  5. Tap the search icon at the top right
  6. Search for and tap Nanoleaf Smarter Series
  7. Follow the steps on screen

Any error or screenshots you see after that of issues?

Yes I did all of them. No error message.

Did you try contacting Nanoleaf support? I guess there looks to be an issue with their Google Home integration.

Yes I tried that too. They helped me with changing the router to 2.4 . Apparently they used to work until google made some changes. I wouldn’t be surprised now I can’t get accurate song selections

Hey Doggo1,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. By the way, I appreciate @David_K for helping here.

To confirm, are you able to see and control your Nanoleaf devices now from the Google Home app? Could you tell us more about your concern about playing music on your device.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hello sure,

So I can control the light bulbs using the Nanoleaf App. However, the google home app and my nest are only able to control them for like 2 hours max, after that they just become unresponsive. It says something like the device is not available. I tried everything , resetting the devices, reinstalling everything from scratch, factory reset of my nest my router, limiting my router to 2.4ghz. I spent for real like 10 hours here.

As for the music, I use Apple Music. The problem started like 4 months ago, when I ask for songs it randomly chooses weird versions like live or even covers. For example try master of puppets and is a weird version. I have 2 nest devices and both give me the same result.

i know I’m not alone, so very likely it has to do with the code.

btw I know that the Nanoleaf elements work well with tether, it would be good if you activate the tether anthenas.

Hey Doggo1,

Thanks for the quick response. How far are your devices from the router? Have you tried adjusting the channel settings on your router? Also, please update the DNS settings on your router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. You will need the help of your router/network provider so they can walk you through with the settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

it’s ok but tbh it has not been working great specially for music it is picking wrong versions of the songs very often. Like random live versions. Plus if they do have thread I don’t know why it’s not activated

Hi Doggo1,

Must've been hard when you decided to return your light bulbs and thank you for your efforts.

About the music concern, does it happen on your Home Mini alone? What music platform have you tried so far where the wrong version of the song comes up?

Thanks,

Dan

Hey there,

I hear you! Let's now try to get it resolved. I need you to try these: Unlink your spotify account from Google Home app and Spotify app. Uninstall the Spotify app from your tablet, reinstall it and add your account. Lastly, add your Spotify account to your Home app. Here's how.

Keep me posted.

Dan

Hi Robertbaker70,

Thanks for trying that. Sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. You can unlink Nanoleaf directly from your Google account then relink it to Google Home app. Check the link below.

I also can no longer control my Nanoleaf Essentials strip lights and after removing them from the Google Home App it will not join them back. It works fine in my Nanoleaf app and if I connect them via adding a Google device they say they successfully connect but the device doesn’t show. I have spent hours and I work in IT so this is very frustrating. What ever this seemless setup process is, it doesn’t work and I really wish I could just add the device by using the scan barcode instead. Google Home app does not allow me the option. I have a dedicated 2.4 network too. I updated the firmware to on the light strip.
