Can't select output speakers in new version of Home app

Surfer_Tom

My Google home app for IOS was recently updated to version 3.1.108. Before the update, I could go into the app and change the output speaker for music that was playing. I have a mini speaker, a wifi point with a speaker, and a chromecast that could all stream the same audio. It was not the most intuitive interface to get it to work, but it was usable. With the recent update, I can no longer find an option to select different audio outputs.

Am I missing something, or is this a flaw with the new Home App design?

Same thing here with the Android app.

At this point, I've accepted that the app is cr@pp. You just have to figure out how to do everything with voice commands.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear about your experience with the new Google Home app. Please visit this link or follow the steps below to set your preferred speakers.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap the device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings > Audio.
  5. Select Default music speaker to choose which TV or speaker to use for music.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

@Muddi Thanks for the reply, but that is not helpful. There are multiple issues with the new app. here is one example. Let's say I want to play audio on a google point or mini. I used to be able to do it from the app. See the link here. That article specifically says "3. Tap Media..."  That was possible to do before, but the updated app has no media option. If it does exist, they made it extremely difficult to find.

Hi Surfer_Tom,

We understand. You can still play music to different speakers by tapping the media player on the Google Home app. Please note that this option will only appear if there's ongoing music playing on your speaker.

Hi @Muddi  thanks again for the reply. That is indeed an easy and intuitive way to accomplish what I was trying to do. It is even better than the previous version (pre -3.1.x.x). However, this was not possible when I made the original post while I was using version 3.1.108. Now I am on 3.2.104. Someone at Google must have woken up and made the update to the app.
