I recently purchased a Nest Hub Max and while going through the setup, I tried to swipe left as directed, and it didn't work. The only way I could move forward was to skip the tutorial but then I didn't understand the different screens and how to navigate the Nest Hub Max (because I skipped the tutorial to avoid being stuck on the same screen forever). I've seen a lot of complaints about this, but none seem to ever be resolved. I've tried factory resetting twice and still ran into the same problem. I did take a video my second time going through the setup process as I saw people had previously been directed to do but unsure how to attach that video here.

You probably did this, but did you swipe from the left edge of the screen toward the right side of the screen?

Kcc09, we appreciate your efforts in taking those steps. After skipping the tutorial, can you navigate your Google Nest Hub Max device’s screen by swiping left or from bottom to top?
