Cannot Set up Nest Cam on Google Nest Hub

NestNotBest

I am trying to set up the built-in Nest Cam on my Google Home and I keep getting an error message on my iphone: "Something went wrong.  Try connecting again.  If that doesn't work, try rebooting your Kitchen Display or turning your phone's airplane mode on and off before trying again"

I have uninstalled all other devices (doorbell) and even started a new household.  I also factory reset the Google Nest Hub and turned my iphone on/off each time I tried something new (8 times and counting).  The Google Home was able to reset and connect to wifi each time but was still not able to activate the camera.   I hoped starting from scratch would solve the issue.  It did not.

I’m having the same issues. This is so ridiculous.

  1. Remove the Nest Hub Max from its current home structure.
  2. Factory reset the Nest Hub Max.
  3. Create a new home structure.
  4. Leave the Nest Hub Max offline for more than 48 hours.
  5. Then Set up the Nest Hub Max and its built-in Nest Cam on the new home structure.

No I haven't tried leaving it offline for 48 hours.  I haven't heard this before - did Google say to wait this long?

Yes im waiting now.

I'm trying this as well. Fingers crossed it works and we can just move it back over to the main home.

Yikes! Thanks for the information. We'd like to take a deeper look into this — could you fill out this form and let me know once you're done?

@Muddi,

I tried something from another thread and I was able to get it to register! I had to try setting up, have it fail, unplug for a minute and then try again and somehow I got the camera working now.

Hey Nbates89,

Perfect! It's nice to know that you were able to set up the camera now. No need to fill out the form for now. Let's continue to monitor your device and update us immediately if you happen to noticed any changes on your device.

Hey folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

We're sorry to hear about this experience with your Google Nest Hub Max devices. Could you please provide the following info?

  • Did the built-in Nest Cam work before?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What LED lights appear on the Nest Hub Max?

When you try to stream the built-in Nest Cam, do you get error messages from the:

  • Nest Hub Max
  • Home app
  • Nest app

We'd love to know more about it so we can try some steps.

By the way, thanks for sharing some tips @Frank1e.

Best,

Princess

The camera used to work but I was never able to set it up in a home with my nest doorbell battery (which was also an issue that I have never been able to fix). There is no LED because you have to setup the camera for the LEDs to come on. The issue is that the nest camera cannot be activated because it just gets stuck on the “connecting to joining devices” screen. I have tried resetting the nest hub max, setting it up in the original home structure, setting it up in its own home structure on another Wifi network, etc. none of this works. There is an issue with the joining device part of the setup. There needs to be a way to bypass this and set it up manually. I recently moved homes and setup a new Wifi network hoping the old issue with the doorbell would be fixed and I could have them on the same network but now I can’t even setup the nest hub max by itself.

Hey Nbates89,

Chiming in, could you tell us the version of the Google Home app on your phone? Have you tried a different phone/tablet to set it up?

Cheers,

Muddi

@Muddi , I have tried from two different iPhones and my iPad and they all fail at the exact same point. Below are the versions I have of Google Home on each device.

iPad -  2.66.106

iPhone -  2.66.106

iPhone - 2.66.106

I am having the same issue with my moms Max.  Very frustrating especially since she got it for video chat with grandkids.
