Cannot rename Google Minis

btowntardis

Recently, two of my five Nest Minis (first gen) reset themselves. When I attempted to re-add the two devices, I was able to configure them and add them to specific rooms in Google Home. However, I am unable to rename both of the devices.

Here are the steps I take to rename (Home App ver: 2.52.41.5):

  1. In the Home app, I tap the tile for the device I'd like to rename.
  2. In the resulting screen, I tap the gear icon » Device Information » Name.
  3. I attempt to enter a new name and tap SAVE. In the Device Information screen, all looks correct. I close Home.
  4. If I then re-open Home, the device is still labeled with its original name.

Has anyone else had the same issue?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I appreciate all the details you've shared. We have launched a new update on the Home app and renaming the devices should be resolved if the Home app is on its latest version of 2.52. If updating the app does not resolve the issue, let's try to uninstall and reinstall back the Home app to see if that would make any changes.

Please feel free to share your device's iOS/Android version so we can further check.

Best,

Princess

I have a mini, an original Google Home, and a few Nest Audios that I cannot rename.  WhenI look up their device details, the name is correct (If I edit the name, it shows the old/wrong name in the text field), but it is not displaying it properly in the app.

Unfortunately unsuccessful for me. Steps followed:

1. Updated to 2.52.41.5, could not rename.

2. Cleared cache and storage, signed back in, could not rename.

3. Cleared storage and cache, Uninstalled app, rebooted, installed app and signed back in. Could not rename.

Pixel 6 pro, Android 12.

Hi jonspraggins,

Thanks for responding.

I appreaciate your efforts on trying these steps. Is there any way that you can try using a different phone? I've heard that others are also experiencing the same thing when using Pixel. Lastly, let's perform a complete reset to one of your speakers and let's see if that will make any changes.

Keep me posted.

A full reset of the Google mini allowed me to give it a name during setup.

I was also able to rename it again after setup.

Will repeat the process with the nest audio.

Hey jonspraggins,

Glad to hear you were able to name the mini and finish setup for the device. With that being the case, I am going to lock the thread at this time to keep content fresh. Please feel free to create a new post if you have any questions from here.

Best regards,

Jake
