Could not communicate with you Nest Mini when connecting to wifi

DW4LyF

I have read thru threads on here concerning setting a Nest Mini and getting the message "Could not communicate with you Nest Mini when connecting to WiFi."  I have reset the Nest, I have reset my cell phone too. The question I have is, my network is a mesh network that automatically determines a devices requirement for 2.4 or 5GHz. So I'm assuming my cell is on 5GHz, and the nest tries to get on 2.4GHz and I loose the connection. I don't know how to get around this. Any other options?

I am still not able to connect. I have the Mini less than 5 feet from my wifi device. I feel the issue is that I am not able to choose which wifi it connects too (ie 2.4 or 5.0 GHz). I have the Deco M5 TP Link setup in my house. It allows for a mesh network throughout my house. It autodetects if a Device can use the 5.0 or 2.4 network. When I connect to it with my cell or any device, I only see one network. You do not see 2 like a regular network router advertises.

Hi DW4LyF,

Sorry for the late response. I appreciate the details you've shared and would love to know more about this set up. Can you try to connect your Google Nest Mini to your router without involving the mesh network? Also, it would be best if we try to set it up using mobile hotspot to further isolate the network issue.

Keep me posted.

Connecting to my route with the mini would be impossible. My router is not wireless. The Deco M5 TP Link device connects to my router creating the Wifi Network in my house. I also have two other Deco devices on each of the other two floors of my house which creates a full wireless network in my house. These other two devices pass all traffic to the router. Normally my routers advertise two networks for a 2.4 and 5.0, but this one shows one network and chooses the network the device works with. I'll try the mobile hotspot when I wake up and report back. thanks.

I'm not able to use my cell phone as a hot spot because the setup equity the home app requires my phone to be connected to WiFi and when I do that the app uses the WiFi and not my cell phone hotspot.

Hi DW4LyF,

To confirm, how many phones/tablets do you have? Please note the you have to use two devices. One device will serve as the router and the other one will be the setup device.
