Create Speaker Group with Spotify

parryjm
Community Member

Trying to create a Speaker Group called "Music" for 1 Google Home Speaker and 2 minis, so that I can listen to Spotify music on all 3 speakers at the same time.

When I select the 3 speakers and specify the group name as "Music", it comes back with the following error message

"The operation couldn’t be completed. (Com.google.CastFramework.SetupLib.CastSetupError error0.)".

When I ask Google to play a specific song on any one of my speakers, it's able to play the Spotify song.

Can someone tell me why I am getting this error message and what I need to do the resolve this issue?

I have Google Home installed on my Apple iPhone.

Well, he told me usertday that he tried listening to the "Speaker Group call "Bobeck Group" and he was able top hear music on all 3 of his Google speaker devices.  Not sure why it started working.  He did nothing different other than waiting a couple days before trying again.

I think we are good.  Thanks for assistance.

Hi there,

Can you please try using a different name for the speaker group and let us know if you still get the same error?

Casting to groups is disabled after sonos lawsuit

Okay.  Understood.

I am also having an issue casting to gen 1 Chromecast on a TV,

In an article I read about the lawsuit. it made reference to using the "Device Utility App" (DUA) to complete the installation of Chromecast.  Can you tell me exactly what DUA I need to download to my Google Pixel phone in  order to complete the install?

Hi again,

In the Google Nest blog link below you can find more information about what countries are instructed to use the device utility app.

Hey parryjm,

Thanks to Cathal_S for helping here.

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Let's address your issues one at a time. To confirm, did you manage to create a speaker group? If not, please try renaming your group again, and make sure to make it unique. Remove the word "Music" as it may cause confusion to your device.

Regarding casting on Chromecast (1st gen) - what cast-enabled apps are you casting? Are you casting from a phone or Chrome browser from your computer? Also, could you tell me where you are located?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Was told it will no longer work due to the lawsuit with Sonos, so I have stopped pursuing.

As for the casting on Chomrecast, the last response from Google provided me a link that did not work.  To answer your questions - Trying to Cromecast from Google Chrome browser on my Windows 10 computer and I reside in the state of Arizona.

Well, I had my neighbor try to create a Speak Group called "Full House" and he got the same error.

"The operation couldn’t be completed. (Com.google.CastFramework.SetupLib.CastSetupError error0.)".

I was able to create on my wireless network a Speaker Group called "Full House" the contained 1 Display,

1 Home and 1 Mini speakers and I am able to play music on all 3 speakers.

The only difference - I use Google Music and my neighbor uses Spotify.

Is using Spotify and the law suit the reason my neighbor cannot create a Speaker Group?

Hey parryjm,

Thanks for that added information. Could you tell us what speakers he/she is adding to the group.

Hey parryjm,

To confirm, are you sharing the same network connection? Using different music services is not the issue. It is possible that he has an existing speaker group named "Full House" or it has been used before.

I'm pretty sure he had not used the Speaker Group called "Full House" before, so I will have him verify that the cell phone running the "Google Home" App is on the same wireless network as his 3 Google speakers.  I will let you know what he finds out.

Went over to my neighbor's house and configured their router to broadcast both the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz wireless networks.  Then did a factory reset on all 3 of their Google speakers using his iPhone (5 Ghz wireless network) and all 3 Google Speakers were also on the same 5 Ghz wireless network.

I successfully created the Speaker Group "Full House" (no errors this time) with all 3 speakers listed in the group.  That's progress!

However, when he verbally asks Google to play a song on "Full House", it only plays the song on the Google Speaker that he instructed to play the song.  Nothing on the other 2 devices.

If I use the Google Home App on his phone, I can get it to play a song on all 3 of his devices!

Not sure why he cannot verbally instruct any of the 3 speakers to play a song on all 3 devices at the same time.

I had him create his old Speaker Group called "Bobeck Group" and this to would not play the song on all 3 devices.  Any thoughts as to why?

Hey parryjm,

Thanks for the update. It's nice to hear that your friend was able to play a song on his speaker group now. Just remind your friend to use the keywords, "Hey Google, play music on <name of speaker group>" Feel free to share this link for more reference about the speaker group. Let us know if you have additional questions and concerns about your speakers and we'll glad to lend you a hand.
