I have set up several routines in the Google Home App. Lately, when I start the routine in one device (Nest Mini), the routine starts in that Mini but the podcast or music starts playing in another device (Nest Hub) in a different room.
In the Personal Routines Menu in the Home App, the last item says "Start Your Routine on" showing each of the devices I own, however the option of starting on the device that started the routine is not there. When I select a specific routine that I have created in the Home App, at the bottom of the description of the routine, the selection shows "Device that started the routine" under the "Device for audio" menu. Selecting that particular menu item brings another screen listing all the devices I own but all are greyed out and cannot be selected.
I want to set the system back as how it was at the beginning when the routines would play on the device that starts the routine. There seem to be a command conflict and I would like help synchronizing the commands to hopefully listen to what I need in the device I'm interacting with.

I may have solved the issue on my own although I wish there was an easier way. I ended up resettling each of the devices to their original setting. (You’d need to Google or YouTube your particular model/version). I also erased and reloaded the Home App. As you plug in the devices, they start instructing you to upload the Home app and connect to the devices through the app. The new routines now perform in the device that started the routine.

I have this too, but reversed. I wish to be able to select a device for a certain routine but it will only use the device the routine is started on. When heading upstairs for the night I want it to turn on my bedside lamp and start playing ocean sounds on the bedroom speaker. Fine if I give the command in the room but if I do it downstairs then it starts on the nearest speaker. I cannot get it to select the bedroom speaker in the settings.

Hey targaid,
Apologies again for the late reply. I wanted to check back in with you, and see if I could be of help with the routines. I did find an article with more details on routines, and how to manage those. Please let me know if that helps, or if you have any other questions from here.
Best regards,
Jake

No help at all, I'm afraid. It doesn't address the issue of why the selection of speaker is greyed out. It only explains how to set up routines and I can do that.

I ended up re-starting all the devices as if they were new. Resetting them to the factory settings allowed me to program each device to start where I made the command. The funny thing was that even though I restarted everything, they still remembered some of the previous settings, as if I was never able to completely clear them off. I look forward to learning more if you can bring forth any additional suggestions.

Hey folks,
We appreciate your patience and efforts.
If the action on your routines is somewhat linked to your Google Account there's no guarantee that it will be deleted when you reset the device. You might check these additional steps to delete your routines:
1. Go to https://bit.ly/2LW1PQ8
2. Sign in the email linked to your Google Home.
3. Look for Other Google Activity > Google Assistant routines.
4. Delete all your Routines.
Hope this steps help!
Thanks,
Alex
