Hi,
I'm using the Nest Hub to play music from Youtube (Premium, if it makes any difference).
How can I disable all the Video content and switch to Audio-only mode when playing songs? (content filters don't seem to allow this kind of behaviour).
Thanks!

Hey bmd,
Thanks for reaching out.
While we don't have a way to switch Audio-only mode when playing songs from YouTube, you can play music from YouTube music since you have a premium subscription. You can check this article for more information.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the suggestion - this does seem to work but not with all the songs. (e.g. "Hey Google, play Astronaut in the ocean", starts playing a video using Youtube music).
Thanks!

Hi there,
Kindly check if YouTube music is set as your default music provider. Here's the steps:
Let us know how it goes.

Hi,
I checked - `Youtube Music` is the music service (same account on device & phone).
When asked to play a specific song (i.e. "Play astronaut in the ocean [on youtube music]"), it replies: "Playing astronaut in the ocean on Youtube music" and starts playing the video (tapping the screen shows the Y. Music logo in the top left). When asked to play "Masked Wolf", an entire playlist is played (including the previously mentioned song, without video).
So it seems like a "feature" of Youtube music where it tries to augment the experience showing videos for specific songs.
Thanks!

Hello bmd,
Is it only happening with a particular song? If possible, could you send us a short video clip? Also, have you tried checking if this is happening with other music provider?
Thanks,
Alex

Hi, I’m not sure how it choses if the audio only or video on.
Here is a recording of the behavior.
Thanks!

Hey bmd,
Thanks for sending that video, it gives a clear view of what's going on with your Nest Hub. Could you give us the cast firmware and software version of your display? Also, fill out this form so that we can check this with our team?

Alex

I have exactly the same problem. I want to prevent any videos from youtube or youtube music from being played on nest hub. I have children in the house who can play their own music and sing and dance, but I don't want them to watch cartoons too, because they will mess up their screen time.
So, what is the method by which I can prevent any video content on nest hub?
I've tried in digital wellbeing, but there's nothing I can turn on there, I can't put any filters.
I'm in Romania and use YouTube Premium, if that matters.

Hi nirosorin,
I understand what you mean and I know it would be very helpful for you if that feature to turn off video is available. Have you already tried, "Ok Google, play <song title> from YouTube Music" instead of asking to play from YouTube.
Let us know the results.

Princess

I actually never ask specifically to play something on youtube music. And as I've just said it's the kids who abuse this feature, so I cannot really hope to have it resolved by telling them to use a different command.
I've put it back in the box to return or sell it several times already. It's absolutely frustrating to not have such a basic feature as to just use it as a photo frame...

Hi folks,
@bmd, thanks — we got your form and we've escalated it over to our higher level of support for further review. Please keep an eye on your inbox as someone will get back in touch with you soon.
@nirosorin, I totally understand and I know it would be very convenient if this feature is available on Google Nest speakers. In the meantime, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.
