Error message when syncing devices

MarkMark
Community Member

When I ask the assistant to sync all devices (on my mini), I get the response:

”Sure, syncing devices for 4 providers. 4 things aren't available. You might want to try setting them up again.”

I googled and google ed but came up with nothing. I've deleted all providers that are connected to my google home (like Philips hue. Still it gives the error. I even deleted my entire home (under "delete this home") but still it keeps on saying that 3 devices are not available.

Please prevent me from buying Alexa.

I asked raised this issue an other threat I opened. However I got a bit of lousy response and marked itself as the solution. Which it clearly is not. For some weird reason it is locked so I had to open an nee thread for an other try.

To be clear, I did
- Say the voice command, “Hey Google, sync all devices."
- Try creating a new home structure and move all your devices to the new home. Once done, delete the old home structure that you have.

When did it start happening? Already for a long time. I don't seem to be any logic.
Were there any recent changes to your network or set-up? No. I did move a year ago. But it was already messed up before that.

I have exactly the same problem! with the difference that with me the device not found is my current smartphone. it also tells me "syncing X providers. phone is not available, you might want to try setting it up again", the strange thing is that the phone easily manages the nest, and from the nest I can regularly reach the phone if I ask it to do so , I can cast videos and music and so on. the only anomaly is that it tells me it can't find it during the sync. I didn't even know that smartphones are among the devices in the google nest... I too have tried all the things you described and looked for solutions online but I still haven't solved it

Hi folks,

@KuroiTenshi, thanks for posting. You actually don’t need to do the sync command for your phone as this is already connected to your devices via Google Home app and Google assistant app.

@MarkMark, thanks for creating another thread. It looks like you've already done a good amount of troubleshooting with this issue. I’m glad that they are working on your Google Home app. We just want to confirm: Are you able to control your devices via voice command independently?

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
Juni

hi Juni! thanks for your reply! actually i don't have any issue with my phone or voice commands, the only issue (also the reason why i opened the thread) is that everytime i ask my nest to sync all devices, it executes the command and say "can't find *phone name*, you might want to try setting it up again"... every single time! it does not affect the devices from functioning in any way, but it's quite annoying, and i would really love to resolve this

Hi folks,

We appreciate you taking the necessary steps. It would help a lot if we do a sequential reboot to refresh the link between devices and its settings. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest devices then, all the other smart devices. Keep them unplugged for 5 mins. Plug them back in starting with your router. Make sure your phone is not connected to its mobile/cellular data but only to Wi-Fi.

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan, thankyou for your reply, tried what you suggested but nothing changed 😕

MarkMark

Hi Dan! I did so. Even better; I turned my phone off and cut the power to my house. I powered it back on starting with the router.

The problem did not go away.

Hi! Yes I am able to control my devices via voice command. (except from my TV)

@MarkMark,

I created a post for the same issue and was open for months (see link ). As you can see, I was asked to test all sorts of stuff and nothing worked, and they tried to close it without resolution more than once.

In the end I was asked to fill in a form that got me in contact with a member of the Google senior support team. They gave me some of the same suggestions I got in this community in 1 email, and when I responded that they didn't resolve the issue they replied with this (on 23/11/22):

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My post in this community was then frozen so no more replies or contributions could be made on it, even when the issue had not been resolved. Ill keep insisting via email with my case number, until it gets a resolution.

Hope you have better luck!

Hi KuroiTenshi,

Sorry for the delays. I just wanted to check if you still have issues syncing your devices. Let us know by updating the thread, and we're glad to help!

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi muddi, thankyou for your time, don't worry for the delay 🙂
yeah, the issue is still occurring whenever i tell google to sync all devices

the only change since my last check, is that my old 2 phones i signed out on the link you gave me (your devices) are disappeared, now in that link only my actual devices (my pc, my actually 2 phones and the nest) are listed

Hi folks,

Chiming in— @MarkMark & @KuroiTenshi, could you try these steps and see if this would work?

  1. Go to https://goo.gle/3aFSuU8 (use a laptop/desktop browser)
  2. Click your account icon on the top right corner
  3. Go to the library & services > Devices
  4. Put a check on the device you are using and uncheck the old devices

@FJO, thanks for sharing the update.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Nikki

Hi Nikki,
Thanks for this. I tried this and, although I have loads of active Google Nest devices (hubs, speakers, 3 Ghromecasts, smoke alarms, doorbell), only one device (a Chromecast) is listed there. What devices are supposed to be listed on that screen?
Thanks again.

Hi FJO,

Thanks for responding. You should be able to see all your devices in the Home app as long as these devices are set up in the same Home structure and connected in the same Wi-Fi network. Could you please share us a screenshot of what's currently connected and visible on your Home app?

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess,
I can see all my devices in the home app, but only one in the link that Nikki shared as a potential solution ( https://goo.gle/3aFSuU8 ). What am I supposed to see listed there?
Thanks again

Hi, Mlabrador
i tried to do what you suggested, but i already have only my actual smartphones listed and checked, all old devices are already unchecked
also, since few weeks the message went to "i cannot find -device name-" to "i cannot find two devices", but can't know which ones and why... i am almost resigned about this

Hi KuroiTenshi,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you tell us the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

thankyou for your time and kindness!

my nest firmware version is: 1.56.324896

Hey FJO,

My apologies for the delayed response. To answer your question, you should be able to see the phones connected to your account. Just an added question: do you get the same response when you use the Google Assistant app on your phone?

@KuroiTenshi: Please click here to check if you can see unused devices. Make sure to log in the same email address linked on your speaker.

Cheers,
Muddi

@Muddi

I get an identical answer, word for word.

hi Muddi, unlike previous attempts, in the link you provided i found 4 android phones, the 2 i'm actually using and 2 old phones i left time ago... maybe those are the 2 devices that assistant tells me can't sync... i clicked "sign out" on both of them, but the assistant still gives me that response.. maybe it needs time to adapt, i'll try next hours/days and let you know!

this is the first very news i have about this issue! i hope it worked!
thank you a lot in advance!

Hey KuroiTenshi,

Thanks for the update. Please update us if your speaker will have the same response when syncing your devices.

@FJO: We got your form! We'll be reaching out to you via email and let's continue working on your concern through that channel.

Currently, you can see all your active and non active devices on the link that I've provided. You might also want to remove and re-add your account to see if that makes any difference.

Cheers,
Muddi

Hi Muddy,

Today I accessed the link from my PC and the list of devices was longer than when I previously did this.  This said, the 3 apple devices I no longer own that show up on my Nest hub after asking it to sync devices are not on the list.  I saw on the list on your link a few other devices I no longer use and signed out of them, suggesting that depending on what device looks for this info, it gets a different list.
After signing out of the unused devices on the PC list, I still get the same "3 things aren't available" error message. so this has not resolved the problem.

Is there a delay for the change reaching the smart home devices? Also, is there any location where I can get  a full list of devices with access to my account as the lists vary by device?

Thanks again
