Favorite radio station suddenly won't play - Melbourne Australia

Robbo9
Community Member

Have been listening to Triple M FM Melbourne for a year with out issue.  Suddenly today it plays a different station from what I'm asking for.  After a little investigating, I find that radio stations that are linked to either iHeart and Tunein are being played, but nothing via the Listnr app.  Has the Listnr app been dropped.

"Help" pages instruct to arrange your radio requirements via    Media>Manage your system>Radio (button)   But there is no Radio button (Only Music, Video, Podcast or Create Groups)

Hi folks,

Good news! Our team has resolved this issue with playing radio stations with Google Assistant, so we wanted to check that everything is back up and running on everyone's end. If you're still having trouble, please let us know. Check out this update from our Assistant team for more information: https://goo.gle/3GMjp2N

Many thanks,

Absolutely none of the stations I listen to will play. WABC, WTVN, 102.5 The Bone Radio, Faith Talk Radio. None of them. All 7 speakers that I have a worthless without this function. What have you all done?!

I see where TuneIn went to paid format April 4th.

paid? I used my tune in last night to play a local long island station and it played, with ads, but it played

Hi, Muddi. My Echo won't play any radio from any source other than YT Music. Thanks for working on this.

I can't Play any radio stations like I used to.  I routinely play WNYC.  US New York City, Google assistant with Bose 900.  I asked the Assistant to play in several different ways, even tried stations in other states.  Please help.

Pandora works fine for me but XM Radio does not.

Funny, I just realized Pandora works… but Sirius will not. I even removed the speaker and did a whole new set up by resetting the speaker completely. I checked my Sirius XM account to make sure everything was working correctly. Nothing fixes this issue at all.

Hi Muddi, thankyou for looking into this- for me it is 3aw, 2gb, Triple m Sydney thru RadioApp please.

I’ve been playing radio on my speaker since we got it a few years ago. It has recently stopped doing this saying ‘it can’t do that here.’ I’ve done resets to the speaker, home account and broadband. Any suggestions gratefully received.

No solution I’m afraid, but can confirm I’m having the same issue - for BBC content only though, other sources seem to be working.

Same - what the ....

Having the same problem. Regularly listen to Triple M Melb, now can't play ANY radio stations... I get the 'I can't do that here' response.

Also noted, the Assistant's voice has changed to a male voice, not changed by me!

Same here I'm afraid, it's been working fine for years and suddenly I get the "I can't do that here, but you can ask me to play it on one of your other devices". Not helpful!

I’m having the same issue.  It picks and chooses which radio stations it wants to play.  I’ve set my alarm to play 3AW at whatever time and it’s fine, but when I ask to play 3AW during the day, I get the same message.

It’s a PITA.

Mine has stopped playing BBC radio 2 today, gutted Google!

Bhanna

Mine will play certain radio stations but won’t play hit fm 101.3… it stopped working for me but kept working for my partner but once I reset the home hub it now won’t play for either of us.

Same here also. I’ve narrowed the issue down to the RadioApp not working. IHeart and Global Player work fine but RadioApp seems to carry most of the Australian stations.

That link just loops back to this thread... can you post the correct link?

Any chance we can actually get a resolution on this issue rather than just asking for information that is already supplied and merging threads?

I wouldn't plan on this getting fixed anytime soon. There's thread after thread of complaints about a different issue where people say: 'Hey Google, Stop The Music', that Google only pauses the music, then blurts out another ad every 5 to 15 minutes after it's supposedly stopped. This has been going on for over a half a year now already and it still hasn't been fixed. Yesterday after telling my Google to stop the music when I left home at noon, when I arrived back home last night at 10:00, it was still blurting out an ad every few minutes until I unplugged the mini. If I'm going to have to either go into the app to switch the speaker from 'Pause' to 'Stop' or get up to unplug the speaker every time I use one of my Google minis, I realize that it's time to go back to listening to music through my radio. It's much easier to grab the remote and turn the radio on or off versus getting up and unplugging my Google mini every time. Plus another advantage of listening through the radio versus using the Google mini is you only have to listen to the local radio station ads, and not all the additional ads that are plugged in by Google, Tune-in and whoever else, which lately these third party ad installers are getting more air time than the actual radio station.

What's sad is like almost every great product that Google has introduced, they took a product that worked perfectly fine and turned it into a paperweight. Considering all the issues with these google minis lately, apparently google doesn't care about this product since they're too busy spying on and selling peoples personal information. All I know is if Google doesn't take the time to fix these issues very soon, all 5 of my Google minis will be pinging back to Google from the landfill.

I have the same problem, noticed it two days ago. The only station that I listen that works is 1116 SEN but now it goes via Tune In Radio. When I try 3AW google nest says, "Sorry i can't do that yet. MMM and Gold FM Google nest just takes me to other random radio stations.

As someone mentioned above, it looks like something has happened where everything is going via TuneIn Radio now... 1116 SEN does which it did not do before. Can I get a refund on my x 4 Google devices that I bought for this specific function?

Hi I’m trying to play 3aw Melbourne. (In Melbourne Australia)
I’ve seen it is no longer in intune radio and not on i heart radio.

leaves me with RadioApp for local content. I can cast from my phone to the google nest hub but I cannot say “ok google play 3aw Melbourne on radioapp” (or any variant that may get that station/frequency).

it returns with “I don’t know but I found these results on search” and it brings up pages about the radio station.

I’ve restarted the speaker devices, updated google home. I’m in Australia so I cannot link a radio service via google home app.

Having the same problem. Can't play ANY radio through Nest or Hub. Was working fine last week. Also noticed my Google Assistant's voice has changed to a male, not by me... maybe some sort of auto-update has caused the problem.

Maybe she caught a cold?

Doesn’t  seem like this place will help at all with the radio Issue. I’ve tried installing on my phone and linking to google but it doesn’t come up as an option. Seems like most AM stations aren’t functioning.

DevDes

haha... hope she comes back, not a fan of the bloke! Same, can't cast from radio app to nest speakers. No AM or FM for me, no radio at all 😞

Brnny

I can cast from my phone RadioApp to a google nest hub, are you on the same wifi and are you using the RadioApp app?

i just can’t tell it to play without using a phone.

DevDes

I've never had to use an app to play radio... Google just picked it up from RadioApp when I asked to play the station.

Just installed RadioApp and can stream to speaker now manually.

For 2 days I have not been able to get my mini speaker to play Sirius Radio or any radio station I normally listen to including WWOZ and Red River Radio from Shreveport. Please fix this! I loved the ease of playing these options using my mini speaker. Now the speaker is useless to me! Need a fix asap!

Hi my Mini was playing radio stations for the 2 years and now says that it can’t play any.

How do I resolve this?

RYFOR
Community Member

I'm seeing the same on my 2 minis AND on my pixel 5! On my pixel phone, I can manually open the tune in or ESPN apps and play the radio, but it always worked with just "play ESPN 850" or "play wtam 1100". Now, the home/google assistant can't seem to play them anymore. This is really disappointing, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Same.  Tried to play the radio during diner.  Tried 4 stations that always work.  3 normally say from NPR and one from Tune In.

I too am having the exact same problem. Trying to tune into my usual radio stations this evening - via Tune In, also NPR. For years, no problem. Tonight - nope.  Help please.
