Since no suggestions were working, I went back to square one. Factory reset every google item (Nest

thermostat, Nest hub, 2 older Google hubs & 5-1st get mini's.). No joy.

My other items from Kasa, Skybell, & Tapo - switches, doorbell, plugs, etc - an Alexa dot, Amazon Fire TV, etc. all connected with no difficulties.

The Google / Nest still would not connect. So I tried another network using the same phone, router, etc. Then it worked. Before I was using a guest network (that had always worked) but I had to change to a 'regular' nextwork for the Nest/Google items.

I'm sure there is some setting that affects just the google items, not allowing them to see each other, but I haven't found it yet.

Even though it is a PITA having smart things on 2 networks, everything is working with voice control at this point.

Thank you for your efforts.

Hi GaryBa,

Thanks for updating us.

After a series of steps you've tried, glad to know that it's already working. Thanks also for your effort. If you have additional questions or concerns, I'll leave this thread open for few more days.

Best,

A little more info for you which may provide some insight. All smart devices in my home (Roomba, locks, switches, Cosori AF, plugs, video doorbell) are on a guest network. Until recently, my Google/Nest devices were too. But something changed and voice commands quit working. The Google home app couldn't talk to them anymore. They had worked since they were  installed pre-covid.

The solution was to put them on a "regular" network. Not as secure, but functional.

I am still trying to find what changed in the guest network.

Again, thank you both for your efforts.
