Frustrated with Google mini speaker Gen 1

I have Google speaker since 2018. It worked fine for many years.
Then if someone remembers, there was an issue with google Nest devices.
I suppose it was certificate issue or something.

After that my mini speaker never worked the same.
It keeps restarting on its own.
Asks me setup again and again.

Does not even work once after setting up.
I don't know what the problem is.

I have resetted it countless times.
I even tried `11 times plug out plug in` thing. No improvement.

While writing this, the speaker again restarted and now asking me to set it up again.

I have checked WIFI, router setting and everything that I know of.

Hello @pramod77484

Thanks for reaching out to us in the Google Nest Community Forum. I’m sorry to hear your Google Home Mini (1st gen) keeps restarting on its own and frequently requires setup. I completely understand how frustrating this situation can be, and I'm more than happy to help.

I appreciate the effort and time you have already spent troubleshooting. To provide you with accurate information, please answer the following questions:

  • Is the speaker plugged directly into a wall outlet or a surge protector?
  • Have you tried using another wall outlet to complete the reset process?
  • What are the status LED lights that you can see on the speaker?
  • Was there any type of electrical outage around the time the issue began?
  • Are you using the original power adapter with the speaker?
  • Can you check if the power adapter isn't damaged?

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Daniel

Update: Since last reset, I configured the mini speaker as altogether new. I had tried this before but that time it did not work.
Earlier my Speaker was named "Hall Speaker".
I had tried resetting it and named it "Bedroom Speaker".
I tried 11 times reset thing but the problem persisted. I reconfigured it again as "Bedroom Speaker 2". Since then it is working somewhat okay.

By that I mean, it is not asking me to reconfigure it again and again (touchwood). But it does go incommunicado for some time and comes back automatically.

Here are answers to your questions.

Is the speaker plugged directly into a wall outlet or a surge protector? Surge protector but I had tried reset with wall outlet too.

  • Have you tried using another wall outlet to complete the reset process?  Tried two different surge protector and one wall outlet.
  • What are the status LED lights that you can see on the speaker? It used to be mostly two lights in the middle. But now it is working fine.
  • Was there any type of electrical outage around the time the issue began? Possibly but I don't remember it clearly.
  • Are you using the original power adapter with the speaker? Yes
  • Can you check if the power adapter isn't damaged? It is not damaged.

As I write this, the speaker has restarted twice. : |

Hello @pramod77484

Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate all the information you've provided. To move forward, could you please address the last question?
  • If you have another Google Home Mini (1st gen), please try using its power adapter with the device in question, then restart and attempt to set up the device again.
Keep me posted to provide you with further information.

Best regards,
Daniel

I don't have another device.
I could try using another similar wire.

Also, since my last reply the device again started acting weird.
It does not responds. No active lights on the top.
Keeps getting restart again and again.

Is it possible to connect it to a computer?

Hey @pramod77484

Thank you for keeping me updated. In this case, the troubleshooting is only recommended to be performed with another power adapter for the Google Home Mini (1st generation). I appreciate your collaboration in trying to find an alternative step to isolate the issue.

To expedite the assistance, the team would like to learn more about this behavior. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you’re finished. We’ll have someone reach out to you via email from there.

Regards,

Daniel
