Gentle wake up not working for alarms

NestPenguin
Community Member

I ask Google Assistant to turn on gentle wake up, the assistant confirms that it is on for three of my Philips Hue lights in the same room, but the lights simply don't turn on with alarms in that room

'Wake the lights at x' and 'sleep the lights at x' work, but the feature for automatically waking the lights with alarms in that room is not working. It just doesn't turn the light on when the alarm comes around. It used to work fine

Hello NestPenguin,

Thanks for reaching out. I know how challenging it is when you're having issues with your Google Home/Nest devices. Let's try to get to the bottom of this. A few questions: when did the issue start? What specific Google Home/Nest device do you have? Also, are you trying to run a routine? If yes, please provide the actions included in your routine so we can check what's going on.

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hello,

It started a few months ago, I think. I didn't try enabling it again for a while

No, this isn't a part of a routine

I have two Nest Minis, linked as a pair, in my bedroom

Hi there,

To confirm, are you in the same room when you enable the feature? If not, please say, "Hey Google, turn on Gentle Wake Up in <room name>." If you're in the same room as the lights, say, "Turn on Gentle Wake Up."

Let me know if that works.

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes, I have used both ways of turning on gentle wake up. I've said it in the same room, and I've explicitly mentioned which room to turn wake up on for. It replies that it will slowly turn on the right bedside light, left bedside light and the bedroom ceiling light, but no lights turn on

Also, I've also noticed that when gently waking the lights manually, by saying, 'turn on the bedroom lights at 6am', for example, it will turn on all lights in the house, even though it's confirmed that it'll only turn on those three lights, so there are a few things going wrong related to the feature for me

This is after deleting the home and resetting devices to factory, but the same issue still happens, so I've attempted that

Hey NestPenguin,

Thanks for the information. Could you try renaming your room and lights? Let's see if that makes any difference.

Cheers,

Muddi

I renamed all of the lights and the room, itself. It says the same thing about turning off the three lights there, and it displays the same behaviour, i.e. gentle wake up does nothing and manually gentle waking the lights for a time wakes all of the lights in the house

Hey folks,

Sorry for the late response. Has anyone here tried rebooting the Google Nest speakers and router? Simply unplug the devices from the power source for at least a few minutes and as soon as it is plugged in, try saying, "OK Google, sync my devices".

Let me know if this command works.

Best,

Princess

Hello,

I've just done what you advised. It still doesn't work. It still says it's going to turn it on for the three lights, but fails to do so

Hey NestPenguin,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you please provide the cast firmware of your Google Nest speaker?

Check the firmware version of your speaker or display

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version on your Nest display

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

Hello,

All of the Nest Minis are running on 1.56.356012

The Nest Hub Max is running on 1.69.362882

Thanks

Hello! I just want to confirm that Gentle Wake Up is working fine now! I tried it for two nights straight now (wanted to make sure that the first night wasn't a one-off).

Thanks for your assistance!

Things back up and running @jordanhome? Haven’t tried mine out yet but will tonight if it’s working for you

Yeah give it a go! Just make sure to turn off gentle wake up (using the designated command) and turn it back on :).

God bless you!

I have got the same identical issue! Its been going on for the last year.. Its really annoying especially after getting used to it. I made a forum for it some time back but it was just closed for no reason (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Sunrise-Alarm-not-working/m-p/442930).
