Getting Google Assistant/Nest Audio Speakers to turn my LG TV On/Off

So I have linked my Google Home with the LG ThinQ for my LG TV and that's all good, but the final step is to be able to tell my Google Nest Audio Speakers to turn the TV On/Off using Hey Google with my voice.

Am I correct in saying that I need a Google Chromecast for this to work ?

I don't and will not use the Chromecast for any other function other than this one command, as my lights, heating etc are all set up and working fine. So if this is correct, I only need the cheaper HD Chromecast and not the 4k Chromecast?

Cheers

First of all, It *can* work without a chromecast. But it all depends on LG in this case.  I live in the netherlands and here it is not possible to do so because LG chose not to offer Google home compatibility in the Dutch language. After a lot of fiddling around with telling my tv as well as my LG account that I live in the UK I finally got it to work. More or less.  The tv turns on and off by voice commands send to google nest devices, and sometimes it even allows you to turn the volume up or down. But most of the time that last one stops working and the google devices complain that they have no clue what device you meant.     This is (another) bug in google's nest devices, but the main thing is to get you LG tv set up juuuuuuuust right.

Hi Realjax,

Can you tell me how and what you did to get yours working without a Chromecast?

Well..its like I already said. For me the secret was in telling the tv I live in the UK (its a setting somewhere) and use an LG account that also thinks I live in the uk. And use that account on the tv ss welll. Then link the lg Account to google home in the app.. where are you based, uk?

But the problem here is not with Google (for a change 😐) so really you might be more successful when asking  around in an LG forum..

I'm in the UK.  My LG TV is linked to Google Home via LG ThinQ app.

I'll put a post on the LG UK Forum, if there is one.

There is a Forum in the UK called AV Forum which covers just about everything and I have posted my issue on that, but no replies yet .

I have spent hours trying to get my TV to turn on / off with voice, Google voice through the speaker just keeps saying that this is not possible at the moment.  I think I'm going to try it with a Chromecast attached, that should work and they are reasonably cheap.  I used to use Google home devices years ago in my home, but back then it was just not good enough for me, so I got rid of all my Google devices and moved to Alexa.  But I have decided to go back to Google Home at a reasonably high cost and inconvenience, selling all my Alexa speakers etc and buying the Google ones.  Google proves to just have add on after add on and it proves expensive. (Hue Bridge and now a Chromecast), but I'm persistent and I'm determined to get it to all work😂

I've added a Chromecast and I can now turn the TV on and off, however, when I turn it on using my voice, it opens on the Google TV screen rather than my normal Sky Q screen, so at the moment, I then have to pick up my Sky Q remote to go to the Sky TV screen.  Is there a way of stopping it defaulting to the Google TV screen when it turns in ?
