Goggle nest hub max. Casting issues

Hey all,

I am living in a joint apartment where we are all connected to the same wifi network. I use my google home to sleep at night with music but have had issues with people connecting to it and maxing out the volume trolling me.

i have already disabled cast media settings in the google home app but people can still cast to it. I would like to prevent all casting to my device from others on my network and in general so I can sleep in peace. I find it ridiculous there isn’t a simple solution that’s easy to find.

thanks for your time,

Zac

Do you have sole control over the Google Home app for your Household? If not, any changes you make in the app can be overridden by the others.

I don't know if putting your Nest Hub Max in another Home would be enough. So signing into a new Google account (Home app) may be required.

But try my options down below first.

Options...

1. Automation: You could restrict volume levels during different times of the day. My YouTube video...

2. Routine: as a backup to the above Automation you could use a Daylong Routine in Personal Automations to keep pressing those volumes down by using the "Adjust assistant volume" action.

Eventually they might get the message that casting to the big speaker on your Google Nest Hub Max isn't worth it

Hey,

thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it’s more or less a person thing where even if I did automate the volume or change things according tot time of day they would still mess with it. I just was hoping there is a away to only allow my good account to cast to the device

Hi @Zac84

Just to add to this discussion,  I would not want to share wifi for a number of reasons. You may want to look into a travel router or similar to create your own secure network within the shared one.

Hey Jill,

thanks gill

Apparently the travel routers cause issues some how with the wifi network so I’ll see how I go
