Google Assistant 'hey google find my phone' stopped working

I frequently use 'hey google find my phone' on a smart speaker (mini, home) to find my device.I've tried all the usual - find my device works fine from the app, from the website etc. I see my Samsung Android phone and can make it ring, so everything is set up correctly on the phone. But from the Home speaker it just tries to call my phone number instead of ringing via find my device. It even works via Assistant on the phone itself (but tells me that is the only phone it can find).

Hi @bkumaranb,

Thanks for contacting this community! I'm sorry to hear that one of your Google Home devices is having trouble with the "Hey Google, find my phone" command. Instead of ringing your device, it sounds like it's trying to call your phone number. This can definitely be confusing, especially since Find My Device seems to be working correctly otherwise. I really appreciate you already checking the app and website; that helps narrow things down. I'm here to help you get this sorted out.

To provide the appropriate troubleshooting steps for this issue, I'd like to ask you some questions:

  • What model of phone are you using with this voice command?
  • What model of Google Home device are you using for this voice command?
  • Did you try using other voice commands besides "Hey Google, find my phone"?

Hi Eduardo, Thanks for reaching out. I have 6 google home devices all connected to single network through a Mesh Router. The devices are Nest Hub Mini first and second generation also a Nest Hub. I have linked my Samsung M34 phone to the same. I have also used a command "find my device" which was working previously but now it gives a message back " To find the settings for this device tap the settings icon in google home app then type the device icon

Hi @bkumaranb,

Thank you very much for keeping me informed about what has been happening with this voice command that was previously mentioned to be working before. For that reason, I'd like to ask you some additional questions.

  • The default Voice Assistant was recently changed to Gemini?
  • Other changes were made prior to the issue occurring?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,
Eduardo
