Google Home Device no longer audibly announcing reminders on displaying them.

Anonymous
Not applicable

About a year ago I asked my Google Home device (I guess it's now a Nest Hub) to set a daily reminder to take my medication.  It's been working great and it would always audibly alert me that I had a notification.  Did this for over a year and then I believe August 27 was the first time I didn't hear a notification.   Today  I was watching the display and when the time came up it only displayed the task to take my medication.  I've looked in the Home app and all the notification settings are turned on but I still don't get an audible alert.   Can anyone tell me how to get it to audibly alert me to my notifications?

I am having same issue too. Would like to know the answer to this.

I have almost the exact same issue. All tasks set do not go off on either my Nest Audio speaker or Nest Hub audibly or a text display - nothing at all. The notification would display on my mobile but as of yesterday, there are no notifications even on my mobile. However, if I ask either device what tasks I have for any day, Google will tell me. I have checked all toggle options, done the whole reset and yet the problem remains.

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out to our community space. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by your Google Homes devices.

To assist you with the best solution, I would like to get a bit more information:

  • May I know the model of your Google Home device?
  • Were there any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in Wi-Fi network or relocation of the device?
  • When did this behavior first begin?
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area?
  • Have you tried connecting the Google Home device to a different power source?
  • When you open the Google Home app, did you see an error message on the Google Home app screen, or when you ask something to your Google Nest Speaker, or just the notification?
  • What is the model of your smartphone?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps you've already tried?

By understanding these details, we can better diagnose the issue and find a solution.

Best,

Jeremy

I have the original Google Home Hub that I believe is now called the Nest Hub.  There has been no changes to the environment.  I first noticed on Wednesday August 28th.  I had told it to remind me every day at 6pm to take my medicine.  Wednesday was the first day it did not audibly notify me.  Only a display was given.  I have not tried using another power source but I can if needed.  I don't believe power is the issue.  Opening up Google Home app on both my Galaxy S22 ultra and my Ipad Air  4th generation both come up fine.  I don't see a setting for making the notifications audible or not.  I have powered the device off and then powered it back on.  Ok powering it off and back on worked.  I just tried that and it worked.  After researching the problem I wouldn't have thought it was that simple.

Hi everyone

Thank you for your timely responses and the comprehensive information you've provided.

We'll be troubleshooting your Google Home devices as follows:

  • Reboot the device.
  • Reboot the Wi-Fi router.
  • Check if that works. If the issue persists, continue with the next steps.
  • Uninstall the Google Home app.
  • Install the Google Home app.
  • Log in with your Google Home account.
  • Set up the device on the Google Home app.
  • If the issue persists, perform a factory reset.

Note: For instructions on how to perform a factory reset on your Google Home devices, you can refer to this article: Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Additionally, we can verify your Personal Results settings:

  1. Open the Google Home app on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Tap "Home," then "Settings."
  3. Under "Features," tap "Google Assistant," then "Personal results."
  4. Tap the name of your device.
  5. To turn on personal results: Tick the box next to the device name.
  6. To turn off personal results: Untick the box next to the device name.

To check how to enable personal results on other types of devices, you can refer to this article and follow the steps: Allow personal results on your Assistant-enabled devices.

If the issue still persists, we can check your calendar settings:

  1. Make sure the Google Home app is up to date.
  2. Force close and re-open the Google Home app, then wait for 30 seconds.
  3. Tap "Settings."
  4. Tap "Google Assistant."
  5. Tap "Manage all Assistant settings."
  6. Select "Calendar."

Thank you for your attention. I await your response.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy.  I will try these steps in the coming days.  I had tried some of them, but will try all & give you feedback!

Hi Folks,

Thank you for reaching out to our community and providing such detailed information.

I truly appreciate @theparlourroom for sharing your progress in trying the steps I outlined in the previous post. Additionally, I'd like to ask @TanyaC  and @Kazkins  if they've also attempted the steps I suggested.

Thank you for your patience. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Regards

Jeremy

Hi,

I had previously completed those steps and it didn't work. I gave up and hoped Google would rectify the issue eventually. And that's what happened, it started to work. However, as of two days ago it has stopped working again. Neither of my Google devices inform me audibly nor is the notification displayed on my Nest Hub. It is incredibly inconvenient and I wish whatever is going on Google's end would get sorted.

Hi @Kazkins

Thank you for letting me know, and I appreciate that you will be following the steps in my post. Furthermore, I am grateful for your feedback, as your comments are very valuable.

Best regards,

Jeremy

I have the exact same issue, it's obviously been caused by yet another update breaking features that have worked for years.

None of your suggestions are helpful, instead of telling people to switch their Wi-Fi on and off why don't you escalate the problem to the people that can fix it and give people a timeframe as to when their devices will work properly again.

It's frustrating, isn't it?!  Mine just started to work all of a sudden. However, as of two days ago it has stopped working again.  As you suggested, a timeframe would be good.

Hi all,

So without doing any if the steps suggested, it just started working again. Doesn't make any sense, but I'm happy it's working...for now!

I’ve done all of these things, and it’s still not working. Tonight I watched the time tick over on my hub, and it didn’t even display the reminder. When I went into the Tasks app, I saw a bunch of repeat reminders I’d put in over a year ago that I hadn’t even noticed stopped working ages ago. It seems reminders isn’t working at all. When I ask what my reminders are it told me the latest 2 I had added in the last few days, but no others. I have the right calendar linked. I now realise it’s been a problem for over 6 months since I’d forgotten about reminders I put in ages ago. It shouldn’t be this difficult.

same issue. all speakers and screens no longer display or announce reminders/tasks

I’m very unhappy to be paying $24 a month for a service that can’t get the basics right … Perhaps fees waived for everyone until it’s fixed will help Google hasten the solution?

reminders are free. completely broken, 100% unsupported, marketed by scum, but nonetheless free

Same as everyone else and around the same time.  My Maytag washer/dryer always came through to let me know when they were done.  Now I have to try and listen for the sound on the appliances where are in the basement.  Oddly enough though,  my LG dishwasher works fine.  So not sure what changed between Maytag and Google.  I know that it WASNT me! At least for now, the Maytag app does push notifications so that somewhat helps.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with your Google speaker and the reminders. I understand that you have your dishwasher and your Google speaker linked to get reminders, but recently you stopped getting those reminders from your speaker.

In order to give you the correct troubleshooting steps, I need some extra information. Here are a couple of questions for you:

  • What is the model of your Google Speaker?
  • Do you receive any error message from the Google Home App when the speaker does not play the reminder or announcement?
  • Do you use automations for the reminder or announcement?
  • Is this a personal or household routine?
  • Are you able to start the automation or routine using the Google Home App?

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Unlink the dishwasher from the Google Home App.
    1. Open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap devices, then go to Add and select the option Works with Google Home.
    3. Select the device maker from the list.
    4. Select the option to unlink.
  2. Link the dishwasher to the Google Home App.
    1. Open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap devices, then go to Add and select the option Works with Google Home.
    3. Select the device maker from the list.
    4. To complete the setup, follow the steps in the app.
  3. Delete any existing routine that includes the dishwasher.
    1. Open the Google Home App.
    2. Tap Automations
    3. Select the routine to delete
    4. At the top right, tap Delete and then Delete Routine.
  4. And create a new routine that works with the Dishwashwer.

You can check these articles for further information: Create and manage Routines for Google Home automations and  Connect third-party smart home devices in the Google Home app

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

nest minis google minis nest hubs and nest hub max affected

no lights, no voice, and no settings changed regarding personal since it worked 3 weeks ago

I have both the mini and nest hub max.  They both would announce when my washer or dryer was done (Maytag).  That just stopped working and it appears others have the same issue here.  My LG dishwasher does announce.  Already did the usual steps of rebooting, factory reset, unlink/link...nothing changes.  I really dont know if this is a Google or Maytag issue.  They link just fine, voice announcements is turned on.  My Maytag app at least does do a push so I still know when its done, but not always by my phone so the voice announcements are a feature I would prefer to have back
