Google Home Mini Unable to Be Found

Went through Google Home and found the device setup prompt. Downloaded the Device Utility app and get to the point that it begins searching for the device. It is never found, however. Am I missing a step? Using a Pixel 5a.

Hi MasonP,

That's not the experience we want you to have and we're here to help. A few questions: is this the first time setting up your Google Home Mini? Have you also installed the Google Home app on your phone with the Device Utility app? For confirmation, kindly check the Google Home Mini's hotspot on your phone's Wi-Fi settings. If it's not available, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Google Home Mini . Plug them back in after 3 minutes or 5 minutes tops. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, if you can, please use a different phone. Any phone, just not a Pixel phone so that we can isolate your concern.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I do have the Google Home app and Device Utility app installed on my Pixel 5a. The Google Home Mini I am trying to connect to is new out of the box. I restarted my router and the device using your instructions. Then, I connected to my Google Home Mini's hotspot and successfully activated in the DU app. However, my problem now is that the Google Home app cannot find the device. It did find it before, but had me activate it through the DU app. Do I need to reconnect to the hotspot the device provided? Or should being on my own wifi network find the device?

Hi MasonP,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. On the last part you need to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Try to review these steps:

1) Open Device Utility, and then turn Wi-Fi off as it says to.

2) Let it find your device, tap on the name if you have multiple devices that need activation.

3) Go back over to your phone's Wi-Fi and turn it back on (wifi is required for setup, even though they force you to turn it off. At this point in the app, we should be passed the blocking wifi check)

4) Go back to the Device Utility app and tell it to connect to the device.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I was able to get the Google Home Mini connected, but I'm not entirely sure how it worked out. It is working properly though.

Hey MasonP,

Perfect! It is possible that there are just some latency with the connection of your device to your Google Home app. Moving forward, it looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Cheers,

Muddi
