Google Home Mini is offline and can't factory reset

softrockstarr

I came home the other night and I noticed that the lights on my Home Mini were all on and the device wasn't responding. This happens often so I unplugged it and plugged it back hoping it would restart as it usually does. It didn't. The app was showing it "offline", it doesn't respond to "hey Google", and trying to factory reset doesn't work (the lights never turn orange and holding the top does nothing). I removed it from the home and now it has power and will cycle between all lights off and unresponsive to commands/proximity and four lights on as though its trying to connect. Is my device bricked?

Let's try these steps:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your speaker. Wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in, and wait until all 4 lights on top illuminate.
  2. Repeat step 1, 10 more times (so a complete total of 11 times).
  3. After you plug your speaker back in the final time, you'll need to wait a few moments for the device to reset. It will announce "Welcome to Google Home. To get started, download the Google Home app on a phone or tablet," to let you know that it’s ready for setup.

Hi David, I tried this a few times and have been unable to get anything to reset.

No worries, let me ask a specialist to pickup this to advise on further options.

Hi folks,

@David_K, thanks for the help.

@softrockstarr, that's not exactly the experience we want you to have with your Google Home Mini and we appreciate you taking the necessary steps. When and where did you buy your Nest speaker? Also, just to make sure we're on the same page, it would help us if you could check this link and see how you did the factory reset since the Google Home Mini and Nest Mini have different steps.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks,
