Google Home Mini rendered unusable

A few months ago, both Minis in my home suddenly required a request to be repeated four to five times in order to respond, with 20-25 seconds in between requests as that's how long any response at all would take - "sorry, there was a glitch, please try again in a few seconds" or "Sorry, something went wrong try again in a few seconds".   Made them both so frustrating to use for many things - it was like speaking to someone who has a hearing problem but refuses to use their hearing aids. At least I still had some daily alarms set and could use them as bluetooth speakers... However, today is a new story. I could not silence my alarm, no matter how many times I demanded it to "STOP"

Next I discovered that my mini is not set up, and that I should download the Google Home app on my phone or tablet. (which was already all set up and from which everything looked fine...)

Several modem reboots, factory resets for the Mini, and Google Home app uninstalls and reinstalls, I have it all set up again. But, a request again informed me that "Your Google Home isn't set up yet."

That fixed it for me. Thank you.

I was having the same problem and tried all the normal suggestions, removed the device from my google home account, reset it, set it up again, rebooted the network all to no avail.  Then I decided to check the info on my google Home app so I could call support.  Once I went in to the Home App and looked at the info:  Home App,  Devices, Kitchen speaker (in my case), settings, Device information.  For some unknown reason it started working after that (as did the Google mini that had the same problem).  Give it a try, it could work for you too.

The IPV6 thing eventually worked for me.  Two speakers stopped working at the same time.  I tried loads of stuff including disabling IPV6 but nothing worked.  A week later, disabling IPV6 did work.  My only guess is that an update made the speakers not work with IPV6, but why disabling a week later worked when it didn’t work as soon the speakers were bricked I have no idea.

There were 2 issues here. One which is ipv6 protocol enabled causes Google home app not detecting devices and on Google display show a blank screen with no response to command. Second one seem to affect only Google mini which not response to command saying it's not set up yet or there is a glitch.

Me too exactly the same

Same here.  Original google home and two minis are don't work.  The nest display does work.  OK GOOGLE, what are you doing to fix this??

Update! I disabled the IPv6 setting and my original google home is now working.  I'll have to go plug in the minis and check them.  I have a little, and old, IT background, It sure was a huge deep rathole that I had to go down with my ATT router to find the setting...  Good luck to everyone.

Are all of your speakers now working? Once you switched the ipv6 setting off did you then need to do anything else with the speakers? Or did they just magically work?!

Once ipv4 was turned off, restart of home mini was required, then worked.

This relates specifically to the issue of device saying it has not been setup.

Yes, they are all still working.  Sometimes the Google voice sounds gurgly like it did before I fixed the problem.

I'm having this problem. It started after a power outage. It's never done this after a power outage before. Everything else works fine. Just my Mini won't work anymore. At first, I couldn't even get the Mini to connect to the Wi-Fi during setup. Finally, it connected, said the device was setup, but when I try to tell it to turn off my lights, now it says it's not setup. Chatted with support and of course that did nothing.

Google mini which not response to command saying it's not set up yet or there is a glitch. The problem had been fixed.

System firmware version : 429109

Cast firmware : 3.73.429109

The problem most definitely hasn't been fixed! Three out of Seven speakers no longer work...

I am gobsmacked. Things are working properly again. I've moved on to an Echo Dot (Alexa device) in the most used area of my home, but had left one of my minis plugged in, and would test it every so often.

Yesterday, it worked. No 20-25 second lag, no requirement to make my request 4-5 times before an appropriate reponse (something other than 'there was a glitch',) no error message telling me it wasn't set up yet. It just... worked. So I plugged my other one back in - no time lag, but I was advised it wasn't set up yet despite appearing in my Google Home app. So, still useless. I didn't have time to go through all the steps to reset it then, but I left it plugged in. And today, it worked!

I'd had issues since January with the l-o-o-ng time lag in responses, then the complete uselessness descended in July  -  now both working perfectly.  I am glad it has been fixed, BUT it shouldn't have taken this long.

And I have an Echo Dot now.
