Google Home Mini

Sam1980
Community Member

I have 2 google home mini's, 2 chrome cast and 1 chrome cast HD.  For the past 2 years all has been well.  1 month ago when giving voice commands to the minis, the 3 lights illuminate but no response for 1 minute (minimum) before it states there is a glitch / something went wrong.  If you say command again it then works.  It's as if it is asleep the first time?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sam1980,

Thanks for reaching out.

Sorry to hear about what's happening right now with your Google Home Minis. By any chance, have you made any changes on your router/network that might affect its behavior?

Let's go ahead and try first some basic steps by unplugging all your Google Home Minis from the power source for at least few minutes then after that, let's rebot your network by unplugging your router from the power source for 20 minutes to refresh its network settings. After that, let's try to command again your Google Home Minis and let's check if there are any changes to its behavior.

Keep me posted.

Princess

I had replied using the email address you sent from.

We have moved internet provider.  We fully reset all minis and chromes.  I have deleted and set up the home again.

The lights do not scroll on first command.  It's like their asleep? Works on second go once they state something went wrong.

We had this provider a year ago and all was fine.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear about what you are experiencing right now with your devices. Could you please tell me how many Google Home Mini do you have? Also, do all Google Home Mini speakers show the same exact symptoms?

Let's make sure that these speakers are within range from the network when we attempt to set it up, preferably within 10-15 feet away from the router. Lastly, please check these settings so we can be sure that we can connect it successfully.

  • Check that your Google Home device is receiving power from a wall outlet. If your Google Home is receiving power, you will see a blinking white light on the back of the device.
  • Make sure that your Google Home device, wireless router, and device used to set up the Google Home (e.g. phone or tablet) are in close physical proximity to one another -- within 15 feet, if possible.
  • Please note: Networks that require you to connect through an authentication page (also called a "captive portal") are not supported by Google Home. This is typical of hotels, schools, dorms and businesses.

Configuring your Router Settings

Be sure to enable or disable the following router settings to allow Google Home to communicate properly with your router and network. All routers are different, so each setting may or may not appear on your particular router (or may be named differently).

Keep in mind that resetting or making changes to your router settings may have unintended consequences. If you need help or have questions/concerns, contact your router manufacturer or internet service provider (ISP).

  • Enable: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), multicast, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
  • Disable: AP/client isolation, virtual private networks (VPNs), proxy servers, IGMP Proxy. VPNs and proxy servers should be disabled on your computer as well (if applicable).

Keep me posted.
