Google Home - Precondition check failef

I was sent invitation from member of household to get access to devices in our home. I received the email invitation to Join and Accept. When I click on the icon to accept and join, it says “Precondition Check Failed”. No other explanation or error code and nothing in troubleshooting addressed this.

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry you're having trouble accepting the home invitation in the Google Home app. I understand how frustrating that can be, and I'm here to help.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Check Date & Time: Make sure the date and time settings on your device are correct and set to update automatically.

  2. Sign Out & Back In: Sign out of the Nest or Google Home app, then sign back in.

  3. Force Close the App: Completely close the Nest or Google Home app.

  4. Test Network Connection: If your device uses both Wi-Fi and cellular data, test if the issue persists on both connections.

  5. Uninstall the App: Uninstall the Nest or Google Home app.

  6. Restart Your Device: Restart your device.

  7. Reinstall the App: Reinstall the Nest or Google Home app from the app store.

  8. Test on Another Device (If Possible): If you have access to another compatible device or computer, try using the Nest or Google Home app there to see if the issue persists.

  • How are you attempting to accept the invitation? (Google Home app or email)

  • Are you the one sending or receiving the invitation?

  • Are both you and the sender using the same type of Google account (e.g., Gmail, Workspace)?

  • Have you previously been invited to this specific home structure?

  • Do you have multiple Home structures set up in your Google Home app?

  • Is this the first time you've encountered this issue when accepting a Google Home invitation?

  • What type of device are you using (e.g., Android phone, iPhone, tablet)?

  • Are you using a VPN or any other network-altering software?

  • If you're sending the invitation, have you tried sending it to a different email address?

  • Could you provide a screenshot of the exact error message you're seeing?

  • Does the sender see any error messages related to the invitation on their end?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your help.  Here are the answers.

I've tried to accept the invitation both ways (the app and email).  I am the one receiving the invitation.  I have not been previously invited to this home structure, however I am an administrator of 3 other homes under this email.  I've  tried my IPhone and IPad with the same results.  I am not using a VPN or other network altering software. I've tried to upload a copy of the error message, whoever despite multiple tried it won't load.  The exact message is "Precondition check failed." The sender does not get any error messages on their end.

I moved and am trying to change the home location and getting the same issue. Very unhelpful error message.
