Google Home and Google Mini gets lost reading recipes.

When I ask Google to find me a recipe it does. Then it starts to read the ingredients but gets lost after 3 or 4 of them. Then it forgets the recipe altogether. It used to work great but now it can't finish a recipe. If I ask for next ingredient or continue recipe it says I don't understand. I have 5 speakers in my home and they all do it. I have also noticed it is getting confused on some home automation now as well. I have rebooted my devices several times. Nothing fixes the issue. And this is every single time I try to use it for recipes.

This is happening to me too. "Next ingredient" tries to find a new recipe with the word "ingredient" and "Next step" gets me a list of local places with next or step in the name.

Hi All,

Thank you both for your messages. I am sorry to hear that your Google Assistant on your devices is not working as intended and is making reading recipes a struggle. I understand your concern and would be more than happy to help.

First, thank you Spookmaster 66 Miles Dudley for trying a variety of troubleshooting steps to the device. Now we can see that it is not an issue with the device itself, but is a Google Assistant issue.

Spookmaster 66 Miles Dudley and @jesuismoi7, since it is the Google Assistant component that is not working, I recommend you posting your question to the Google Assistant Help Community Forums. A specialist there should be able to look into this issue and help you.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, thanks.

Me too. Every freaking time!! It's unusable. And I have no idea how to make it better. Does Google even know how crap this experience is. My blood could every time I try. Is there some key word to know. How do I even ask Google for help on this. Their customer support is non existent

Sorry to hijack your post, OP.

@frances I can't speak for the OP, but I posted a similar question on the Assistant community and was told to come here and post instead(https://support.google.com/assistant/thread/123389139/recipe-next-step-ingredient-command-doesn-t-wo...). I did (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Recipe-Next-Step-Ingredient-Command-doe...) but also replied here to better my odds of getting a response. I haven't gotten a response to my own post and would like at least a possible solution instead of a pass-off.

Hi @jesuismoi7,

For sure, I understand your frustration. I hate being in a back and forth situation as well.  However, this is not an issue with the device itself.  It appears that everyone's device is powering on and working (which is great and the main focus of this forum), but the Google Assistant feature is not working. There is not much I can do on my end since it is an issue with the Google Assistant not understanding the recipe feature. However, I will try to see what I can do and will try to get back as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I am also having this issue. Everytime I would say next step I would get a song or movie called next step description. If I could also get a response at ######### I would greatly appreciate it. I can't find answers anywhere

Happening to me too.  This has been broken for months and is one of the prime selling points of Nest, etc.

I am also having the same issue, and the cooking feature is the main reason I purchased my Nest Gen 2 in December 2021. I had no idea this function wasn't working when I purchased it, or I wouldn't have.

Still having this issue. Won’t save recipe with the button on the screen “sorry I don’t understand”. If you step through the recipe and get to the end you can select “I’m done” and it say “sorry I don’t understand” very helpful. Seems like an intern software student could fix this and its been going on for months.

Magically on the 6 or 7 attempt to get this to work it appears to have fixed itself, at least today.

Trying to "start recipe" sent from m phone toy max and doesn't work..

Will this be fixed?

Same problem for months!! Used to work just fine, then what?  very frustrating when you spend so much on these devices fo a major feature to just stop working withno solution, that is unacceptable, Google created it, changed it, now you need to fix what you changed!

Good to know that I'm not losing my mind.  This worked well when I first got my Hub, along with several other features (hello, "Groups" ) but has since about 9 months or so ago either not worked or given the response "here are some things I have found on the web" - even when I'm just asking  for the time or a the answer to a math question.  It does seem that even if there were some bugs in updates that they would have been fixed  shortly after being reported but this doesn't seem to be a priority to resolve.

Yes, this is very disappointing and has made me - a through-and-through Google loyalist for many years - actually look twice at getting an Amazon Alexa. Fix. It. NOW. If you don't, I'm chucking it in the garbage and taking my tech loyalties elsewhere.

Same. This is ridiculous.

I’m also having the exact same issue. Any progress on a solution?

We've been having the exact same issue for at least six months now.  It's frustrating!  We've reset them and everything.  Google just can't remember it's on a recipe.  If you can catch it with its "lights" still on, indicating it's still listening, it'll stick with the recipe.  But the second the microphone turns off you can say goodbye to Google remembering what the heck it was doing!  Recipes used to be one of the main things I did with our Google Nest Minis.  Now we can't use them for that at all.

For me the solution was as follows:

Setting the device to two languages (German and English), restart the voice recognition process. Restart the device - and voila - everything works fine now fo month...

Thanks for sharing! Do you mean that you now can select a recipe that has say, 10 ingredients, and continue saying "next ingredient" with pauses of several minutes in between, and it will stick with you until it has read all 10, not just immediately?

Has anyone on this thread investigated which of the other devices (e.g. Alexa) can actually go through a full recipe with you in real time with you like google used to? It's time for me to buy a new home device and clearly Google has dropped this function. Please share any info, thanks!
