Google Home can't give simple google results anymore

"Hey Google, who's the lead singer of the Foo Fighters?"

"Sorry, I can't answer that. Try asking something else."

If I use google on a computer/phone, I get "Dave Grohl" in Google's instant search results without having to click on any website.

What is this product anymore? We went with Google Home over Alexa because we could do google searches like this.

This is a lesser product than what we bought and paid for.

I assume this is part of Google's strategy to introduce a paid AI service to smarten up the results again.

Is there a way to fix my dumb google home speakers?

Update: I got it working!

I messed around with my google account data collection, turning the activity off and on. Then I factory rebooted the speaker and set it up as a new speaker, not using old settings, and it works now.

I don't know if both those things mattered, or just one. But that's where I'm at.

@RadDuck

I have no idea why it's not working for you, but I just asked one of our Nest Hubs, "Hey Google, who is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters?" and got "Dave Grohl" as the spoken and displayed answer.

I hope that keeps working. I've seen other posts like yours from time to time in this forum, but haven't seen a clear explanation of the cause.

More: I went around and did a factory update to every speaker type we had, removing the device in the app and re-adding it after a factory reset. Seems to be working, and most of them had to do a software update.

I hope this helps anyone else who stumbles across this.
