Google Home speakers missing in Family Link devices

Half of our GH speakers are missing under the device tab in Family Link. I tried a power cycle, hard reset and nothing seems to work.

As a result, I cannot pair my son to his Nest Mini in his bedroom and he is using my Spotify account when he plays music. The speakers most relevant to him are not showing up at all in Family Link to use with Voice Match.

Hi jpcams,

This is not the experience we want you to have and thanks for doing some troubleshooting steps. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Are you using an Android or iOS device for the set up?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If your child is using an Android phone, you can add your child’s voice with the Family Link app. Follow the steps below:

  1. Connect the phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as their speaker, display, or smart clock.
  2. Open the Family Link app.
  3. Select the child’s account from the list of family members.
  4. Tap Controls > Content Restrictions > Google Assistant >add the child to new devices.
  5. If you have multiple devices, tap the box next to each shared device you want to add your child's voice to. If you have only one device, skip this step.
  6. Follow on-screen prompts to sign your child.
  7. Hand the phone or tablet to the child and help them teach Google Assistant to recognize their voice.

If your child doesn’t have an Android device, follow the steps on the Google Home app. Here’s how:

  1. Connect the child’s phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as their speaker, display, or smart clock.
  2. On the child’s phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
  3. At the bottom, tap Home.
  4. Touch and hold the shared device they want to add their child’s voice to.
  5. At the top right, tap Settings > Link with Voice Match.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions. To give permission, sign in with the parent’s password.
  7. Hand the phone or tablet to their child, and help them teach Google Assistant to recognize their voice.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan
