Google Minis will not communicate with iPhone

MenloMo

I recently replaced my old router. I’m having a difficult time getting my four (4) Google Minis (2nd Gen) to connect. I am getting the following error message.

Den speaker may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again.

I perform the required tasks, namely rebooting the router, bringing the units close to the router, making sure that Local is enabled in the iPhone WiFi. And still nothing. I’m getting frustrated.

Thanks for the reply. I have done all of the above to no avail. I was about to give up and then thought that there might be some underlying issues with it being cross-platform Apple to Google/Android.
I “factory reset” all four of my Minis. This still gave me the same issue of it getting down to the last stage and giving the error message that the Mini couldn’t communicate with my iPhone.
So, I dug out an old Android I had in a drawer. I charged and updated it. Downloaded the Home app and set about adding new devices. It worked. I hope that this helps some other poor sod stuck in the same dilemma.
Be well,

Michael

Hi MenloMo,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that the Google nest minis are no connecting to your network. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

For your concern, please try the below steps:

  • Step 1. Reboot your Wi-Fi router and your Nest speaker or display.
  1. Wi-Fi router

    • Unplug the power source for ~one minute and plug it back in.
  2. Nest speaker or display
    • Disconnect the power cable from the speaker or display.
    • Reconnect the power cable back into the speaker or display.
  • Turn the mobile setup device's Wi-Fi off and on.
  • Switch Wi-Fi router bands (dual-band routers only).

If you have a dual-band router, try to set up your speaker or display on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

  • If the issue is the same, set up a temporary mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Try to connect the speakers to this network.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

 Kevin
