Google Nest Audio won't play CBC Radio from TuneIn

Rodbert
Community Member

Just added Google Nest Audio  to my home google Wifi network. I can't seem to add any radio media services ?  It will play some stations from TuneIn but some won't play (specifically CBC Radio One - 'live' ). The ones it magically likes seem to play fine.  I can 'cast' CBC Radio from TuneIn and works (but not all the time). Sometimes it will only play ads and stop. I can 'cast'  CBC Radio from Radioplayer Canada and it works all the time. Is the problem TuneIn or Google Nest Audio. Wife says take it back... I think it's a bug in connecting with TuneIn still !  Any info or ideas ? Plenty of WiFi bandwidth so that's not the problem... Thanks

Same here!  So frustrating...  It was working a month ago.  The only painful hack I found is ask Google Home to go to CBC.ca and use the touch screen to play radio.  Please fix it!  Otherwise getting an Amazon Echo...

Same problem. Started more than a week ago, then apparently they noticed and fixed it, then started again since yesterday. It is only CBC that is not broadcast, all the other channels are working

I moved into my friends basement for two months while i get a house.   I updated his modem so i could work from home and now his google mini won't work and then I bough a nest for him thinking that the mini didn't work with the new modem and all he wants is cbc news and he gets everything cbc but live news

Same problem here.  Seems like a Tunein Radio problem.  We can play lots of other radio stations but not CBC radio for some reason.

I hope there is a solution to this issue.

This is a known issue that CBC is aware of.  They recently changed their stream URLs, Google and TuneIn are still playing catch-up.  Apparently it's also happening on Amazon Alexa devices.  There's currently a Reddit thread about it on /r/googlehome.  Someone contacted CBC and got this reply: "Thank you for your message to the CBC and apologies for the trouble here.  CBC is currently working with its third-party vendors to ensure the CBC Radio stream URLs are updated in the coming days. We are requesting that you also reach out to the software support team for your device and ask them to contact CBC directly. This will enable them to work with CBC to ensure the streaming links get updated as quickly as possible.  We thank you again for your email and apologize for the inconvenience this is causing."

Thanks for this - we’ve been going crazy without it! I hope they get it sorted soon.

I wrote emails to both CBC and TuneIn and got this reponse from TuneIn so hopefully fixed soon.

..........Hello Rod,

Thank you for contacting TuneIn Support.

This is a known issue that our Developers are aware of. We're working with CBC to resolve the problem and hope to have it fixed as soon as possible.
I apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your support of TuneIn

Hi, everyone.

This is a bug that our internal teams are aware of and looking into right now. I don't have news on when a fix will be rolled out, but I do know it's being addressed. When I know more, I'll update the thread, but I would expect to see improvements soon.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi, Zed.

We're hoping to see that fixed rolled out real soon. I don't know the cause of issues, but in the past when it has happened, it hasn't taken too long for things to be resolved.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Thanks for sharing newer info as you come across it. Again, this has happened before with other services, and I seem to remember TuneIn having issues in the past as well. Things generally smooth out after a couple of days, but I have yet to hear of any significant issues being identified. I'll circle back when I hear more.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Good news, orbitmatt. Thanks for the update.

Now that we're seeing some success, is everyone else seeing the issue cleared up as well?

Thanks,

- Jeff

Works here - had also opened a ticket with TuneIn… Something that may help others - some devices could start playing but other devices needed to reboot first (perhaps TuneIn was hung?). Anyways, all good now!

I still can't get mine to play CBC radio 1 - I can't even get it to stream from the CBC Listen App as a work around - everything else plays fine but no CBC radio 1 which I used to play every day since I got my Google Home.  Rebooted phone, modem and google home several times but to no avail.   Started being buggy this summer, worked for a couple of days, so I thought it was fixed but no longer works.  I've had to pull out an actual radio.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the update. If you haven't, try resetting your Google Home to its default settings. Also, could you provide us the cast firmware version of your speaker and Google Home app version as well?

Cheers,

Alex

its a longrunning bug for tunein in general that google doesn't seem to want to address/acknowledge. As a work around..  when you repeat the request to the mini  4 or 5 times it may start working.

Thanks for the update. For some reason it won't play CBC Radio 1, but I can get it to play CBC Music.

Now, if they could make it possible to cast it to our tv, that'd be nice. I sometimes get the speaker to cast BBC to my tv and would love it if we could do that with CBC radio stations.

Same frustration here.  You might like to read the research that I recently published on Reddit.  https://www.reddit.com/r/googlehome/comments/v6kpjd/comment/icy2ilp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web...

Google and CBC Radio Digital appear to be skirting around the issue.  TuneIn is in the ring too.  Everybody is trying to monetize these services through either direct membership or indirectly through advertising.  One of these parties is not paying the invoice or renewing the contract.

I have ordered my Alexa from Amazon.ca today and verified that I can once again, I can play my favorite CBC streaming services, hands-free.   I will post any outcomes.

CBC streaming radio is dating Alexa

Exact same problem. Tunein app plays CBC just fine but not over Google Home. I saw a CBC release that said some 3rd party apps might not be aware of recent URL changes and hadn’t made the necessary adjustments. Could be so, but how does that explain how Radio 1 comes back for a few days and then goes dark again? Very frustrating to get the Tunein ads and then silence.

I had rebooted my nest and complete a full factory reset in hopes it might clear something cached. It did not work

Started working again this morning, can now play the local CBC station by asking the nest.  Hope it lasts this time!

I am located in Pickering Ontario.  I just issued "Hey Google play CBC radio One"  My nest replied "Streaming CBLA FM from TuneIn along with the TuneIn jingle.  It displays the CBC logo plus Wingham,ON, CBC Radio One Toronto ........

followed by silence, not even an advertisement.

Not working here.  My Alexa Echo Dot (4th Gen) arrives today.  Hoping it gets me streaming CBC Radio online like before.

Nope.  Not working for me. It says "Playing CBC radio 1 on TuneIn", then plays an ad, then nothing

Ok was worried I dreamt about it...  Tried again and CBC still works.  Wasn't working two days ago.  How can this be random?  Boggles the mind...  Different stream "ID" for different locations?

I re-booted (disconnected power / plugged back in) my Google home WiFi router plus mesh pods & Nest Audio and now the WIFI pods AND Google nest speaker will play CBC Radio One - I tried 3x. I'll keep trying and will try other stations but so far seems to work again !  Yahoo !

Hey, all.

If you're still seeing issues, try power cycling your device. It seems like the fix is rolling out and people are getting good results, but a restart might be required for things to settle in. If you go through that and don't see it working, let me know.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Perfect, it looks like we're all cleared up. Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else anyone might need?

Hey, everyone.
It looks like we've slowed down here. We'll be closing up the thread unless anyone else has any input or needs anything else. If so, just let me know and we can keep this open a bit longer.
Thanks,

Yes! I recycled both my router and the Google nest mini and after that, CBC radio started working properly again.

I did absolutely nothing and waited like the rest, for the feed to come alive.  CBC Radio One is now streaming on my Google devices here in Pickering Ontario Canada.  The lobotomy on Google Assistant has been reversed.   It took Google 3 weeks to resolve this problem with their digital technology partners TuneIn and CBC Radio One.   I am keeping the Amazon Echo Dot (4th Gen) I ordered for my new friend, Alexa.  I  think it is wise to have a Plan B backup streaming solution ready when Google goes into multi-week technology fix mode. Vendor A is Google.  Vendor B is Amazon.  For now.

Some other users and I tweeted about it on Thursday.

They had already been working on a fix because of other complaints.

It cleared up by Friday.

Now, if they cane make it possible to cast the radio broadcast to the tv, that would be nice. I do that with BBC radio broadcasts.

Still not working for me. If I ask google to play cbc music Vancouver I either get nothing or I am told the station does not exist.

Hey mgillis,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues listening to radio stations using your Google Nest Audio. I'd love to dig deeper into this issue.

A few questions: when did the issue start? Does it happen to all radio stations? Are you able to play music from other services like YouTube Music and Spotify? How far is your Nest Mini from the router?

Let's try these troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Move your Nest Audio within 15-20 ft. away from the router to get enough signal from your network.
  2. Reboot your Nest Audio and router by disconnecting them from the power source and leave them unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, plug them back one at a time with intervals.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Alex

I ask it to play CBC 1 Windsor, and it plays Toronto or Ottawa. CNC app works fine on my android phone. Improvement over total silence I guess... 😕

Same here since May. TuneIn website states the following, "This station is not currently available."cbcWindsor.PNG

CBC Radio One Windsor is no longer available, when prompted to play CBC Radio One Windsor, it will stream CBC Radio One Ottawa.cbcWindsor.PNG
