Google Nest Hub Font size issue on search results

memphistiger

I wasn’t sure what operating system my Hub device runs on, so I just chose Android.

On my Google Nest Hub, whenever I do a search, when it returns results on the display the phone is so large it goes off the screen and I can’t scroll left or right. I’ve looked at the settings on the device and on the Google Home app, and cannot find a way to change it.

Thanks!

I'm getting the same thing. Why!?!? Fix it please as this basically makes all of my displays useless, especially my Max in the kitchen.

Hi @memphistiger,

I understand your frustration with the search results on your Google Nest Hub. It's definitely not ideal when the text overflows the screen and you can't scroll to see everything. Thanks for letting us know about this!

Here's what I can share about the issue:

  • Search Result Display: You're right, there currently isn't a setting to adjust the size of text or specifically tailor search results for the Nest Hub display. This can sometimes lead to text from phone-formatted websites overflowing the screen.

Let's explore some solutions:

  • Refine Your Search: Try using more specific search terms to get more focused results. This might return a smaller number of results that fit comfortably within the Nest Hub display.
  • Voice Search: Consider using voice search instead of text search. Google Assistant often prioritizes concise summaries for spoken inquiries, making them easier to see on the smaller screen.
  • Cast from Phone: If you find detailed search results on your phone, you can cast them to your Nest Hub screen. While casting won't necessarily adjust the text size, it might allow you to zoom in and see specific parts of the webpage.

We Value Your Feedback:

Your experience helps us improve! We appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention. Please consider submitting feedback through this link or in the Google Home app:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap on your Nest Hub device.
  • Scroll down and tap on "Settings."
  • Select "Send feedback" and describe the issue (search results overflowing).

This helps our developers understand how users interact with the Nest Hub and identify areas for improvement.

**In the meantime, the suggested solutions should help you access the information you need. **

We're always working to enhance the Nest Hub experience, and your feedback is crucial in that process. Thank you for reaching out, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Josh.

Hi mejiacruz/Josh,

* Refining the search parameters does not help at all.
* Using voice results in the same display issue.
* Casting from phone does nothing to help solve this issue**.

** The whole point of having these screens is so we can interact with them without having to touch them. If I wanted to use my phone to search, I would have done that in the first place and not spent a lot of money on displays that use voice interaction. The last thing I want to do, when I'm elbows deep in cooking, is to have to touch my phone or play around with a screen.

I have Nest Hubs in 5 rooms and a Nest Hub Max in the kitchen plus speakers in 5 other rooms...that amounts to hundreds of dollars of hard-earned money that issues like this (and Google's bloody propensity to delete or cancel features and services!) turn into expensive paperweights.

This is a predictably unhelpful reply.  A more honest reply would be something along the lines of "Sorry, we messed something up on our end and we're hoping it gets fixed but honestly it's really a very low priority for us so just be creative and try to find some workaround, yourself. Good luck!"

Hi folks!

I'm really sorry that these changes may affect your day-to-day use with the Nest devices, Google is working to make Google Assistant more helpful to customers. As part of this work, underutilized features on Assistant-enabled devices were deprecated (removed) on February 26, 2024.

However we're always looking for ways to make you all fell welcome. Your feedback is important to us. Please help us improve by filling out the feedback form. In that way our engineering department can hear you.

For more information about these updates you can check out this link.

Best wishes,

Josh

Josh, seriously, if you want us to take your responses with the gravity that that you may have intended them to be taken then, I humbly suggest you make them look like an actual human wrote them and that they actually address the issues at hand.

We already know Google's reputation for culling services and features that they deem "under-utilised" but this is neither a under-utilised feature nor an under-utilised service...it is a straight up bug, introduced by something that your devs fiddled with, that is degrading the usage of the equipment that we spent good, hard earned money on so that we could use the service you keep chipping away at.

I have already filled in the form and as usual I expect no actual constructive response.

However, in a vain hope of some actual intelligent dialogue, how about giving us a rough roadmap of Google's plans for development of Home and Assistant? How does Gemini's inclusion factor in? Seeing as you keep badgering me to activate it all the time, I want to know what using it is going to potentially bugger up in my smart home setup (it clearly states already that some function aren't available).

Give me a reason to bother inconveniencing myself to help beta-test your services before you cull them off again through lack of use because you folks can't communicate effectively...

I’m also having the same problem. It’s just something that started recently. Make nest hub only good for displaying photos. This needs to be fixed.

Having a very similar issue. Did a factory reset on the nest hub max and no change.. so the issue is on a GOOGLE DEVICE MADE BY GOOGLE BARELY 12 MONTHS OLD it can no longer display GOOGLE SEARCH RESULTS.. and the answer from Google is… its not a utilised feature? Asking a google nest hub max to search GOOGLE isn’t a highly utilised feature??? Shouldn’t you stop selling these devices? This is a very expensive brick now. What’s the point improving assistant at all? This is theft. Who would ever buy Google hardware ever again?
