Google Nest Hub Max Fails to Cast YouTube Music from Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Hello Google Cloud Community,

I’m facing an issue where my Google Nest Hub Max won’t accept YouTube Music casts from my Pixel 9 Pro Fold. When I attempt to cast, it either doesn’t connect or shows a connection error, similar to reports of Pixel devices unexpectedly connecting to Nest Hubs (e.g., Pixel 7 Pro issues on Reddit). I suspect this could involve Google Cast protocol problems, Firebase Authentication errors, or network configurations on my Google Cloud Platform setup.

Steps I’ve tried:

  • Confirmed both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network (tried 2.4 GHz to avoid 5 GHz issues).
  • Updated Google Home app and YouTube Music to the latest versions on my Pixel.
  • Checked Google Cloud Console for API rate limits or authentication issues.
  • Cleared YouTube Music app cache and restarted both devices, but the casting failure persists.

Could this be a Google Cast SDK misconfiguration or a Cloud Run latency issue? I also manage an educational site for Malaysian teachers, where similar tech troubleshooting challenges occur. Has anyone encountered YouTube Music casting problems with Nest devices on Android? Any advice on debugging GCP network settings or optimizing cast connectivity?

Casting has always been buggy. It's gotten horrible the last week or so. The only thing worse than Google bugs, is the fact that they don't even respond to posts like this anymore... Multiple Google Assistant devices in our home, mostly Google hardware. Casting from a Pixel 9 Pro from any app or even directly from the Google home app is failing for me as well.

@SPLKPMS, I appreciate all the information provided about the troubleshooting you performed to fix the issue. I know it's difficult to determine if the issue is related to your Pixel 9 Pro Fold or your Google Nest Hub Max device.

We're currently experiencing an emerging issue with playing/casting YouTube Music to Google Nest speakers and displays. We're already on top of this, hang tight. We'll be sharing updates here in the community as soon as we have a solution for this scenario.
