Google Nest Hub Max Personalization using Face Match

Google Nest Hub Max displays personalized content when it has recognized an enrolled user using Face Match feature.

Does it start to display user's personalized content just when it detects that face in the room - even when the user is only passing by and not looking at it? Or does it wait to display the personalized content until it has sensed that the user is looking at it, preventing personal info from popping up each time the user just passes by?

Hi @isaacnewton3108,

You're exactly right! Google Nest Hub Max with Face Match prioritizes user privacy and doesn't display personalized content every time it detects a face. Here's how it works:

  • Face Recognition: The Nest Hub Max uses Face Match to recognize enrolled users when they're in front of the device. Here is an excellent article that can help you to know better how it works.

  • Looking at the Screen (Optional): There are two options depending on your settings:

    • Attention Detection (enabled by default): If attention detection is on (which is the default setting), the Nest Hub Max will only display personalized content when it recognizes a user's face and the user is actively looking at the screen. This ensures privacy for anyone who might just walk by without interacting with the device.
    • Face Recognition Only: You can choose to disable attention detection in the settings. In this case, the Nest Hub Max would display personalized content whenever it recognizes a user's face, even if they aren't looking at the screen directly. However, this might expose information to others passing by.

In summary:

By default, the Nest Hub Max prioritizes privacy and waits for a user to look at the screen before displaying personalized content, even if it recognizes their face. You can adjust this behavior in the settings if you prefer.

I hope this information helps, if you have any other question you can post it in here or create a new thread.

All the best,

Josh

Thank you for the response!

Where can I find this optional setting 'Attention Detection'. I would like to confirm if it is turned on. I can't find this setting in the Home app.

Hi @isaacnewton3108,

I checked my Nest Hub Max to provide step-by-step instructions, but it seems this setting for attention detection might not be readily available anymore. However, as I mentioned earlier, the Nest Hub Max prioritizes privacy. It waits for a user to look at the screen before displaying personalized content. So, you can rest assured that someone wouldn't be able to access your personal information unless you're actively looking at the device.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to look into it.

All the best,

Josh
