Google Nest Hub and Mini play wrong songs and playlists on Spotify

Hi All,

I recently have been having issues where asking google to play certain songs or playlists results in Spotify playing the wrong playlist or song.

The devices both used to function correctly without issue, but suddenly now play up all the time (2 separate devices, both do it - google mini and google nest hub) - I should add that we have an Alexa and that works flawlessly, so does the Samsung TV we have, and if you say "hey google" on our Samsung phones then it works too, so the problem only appears to exist on google devices.

A bit more detail - so for example, we say "hey google, play Jeffs Rock playlist on spotify" - the google device then says "ok, playing your spotify playlist called Jeffs Rock" - what happens then is that it will play some completely random space tech music that I have never heard before in my life and is definitely not in the playlist. It does it with multiple different play lists. The only solution I have found is to manually select the playlist I want on the Spotify App on my phone and cast to the desired google device.

To confirm, we have premium Spotify accounts, the accounts linked on the devices and my Spotify are both the same email etc. We have tried all the advice we could find on other conversations here on the forum, such as uninstalling software, rebooting devices, clearing cache and data, unlinking Spotify etc etc. Nothing works.

It quite clearly to me seems to be an issue with the Google devices, not Spotify because it works flawlessly on Samsung TV, Samsung Phones (using Google) , Amazon devices etc.

Very frustrating having paid hundreds of £ for the devices and Spotify subscriptions only for the device to start playing death metal instead of lullabies to my 1 year old when we are trying to get him to sleep....

thanks Bob

I'm having the same issue. My daughter has a playlist of lullabies and bedtime stories that's always worked when she says "Play (name of playlist)" but now it just plays some random album with a slightly similar name. I can't get it to play any of the playlists anymore, unless I start it from my phone and set it play on the Google speaker. I'm beyond frustrated with it at this point.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made before it started? Are you getting the same experience when you use other music services like YouTube Music?

Try the factory reset; this erases all your personalized settings and restores the factory default settings. It won’t automatically reconnect to WI-Fi, and you’ll need to set it up again. Check out the article below to know more about it.

Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

Best,

Juni
