Google Nest Hub and spotify

mabilouk

Hello all, I got a Google Nest Hub that stopped playing Spotify about 2-3 weeks.

I tried reboot, electric reboot, update all apps(Spotify/Google Home on my android), I unlinked and linked back spotify on my google account.

And nothing worked.

When i ask to put spotify , the main spotify screen will popup but nothing will happen. And gives me an eerror message and will go back to the main screen.

Software version:29.20251023.103.2201

software cast version:3.78.508739.

I'm not sure how to update the Nest Hub itself .. Please need some guidance , because it's driving me nuts ! Thank you

Hi @mabilouk,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties playing music using Spotify on your Google Nest Hub, as the main Spotify screen pops up but then returns to the main menu with an error message. I know how concerning this must be, especially since you've tried several troubleshooting steps like unlinking your account and rebooting your device without success. I appreciate the detailed information shared regarding your software versions and your troubleshooting efforts. Don't worry, let's work together to get this resolved. To help with that, I have a few questions for you:

  • What is the specific error message or code that appears on the screen before it goes back to the main menu?
  • Does the issue also happen with another music service like YouTube Music?
  • What specific voice command are you using to try to play music?

Also, just so you know, the Nest Hub updates its software automatically, so you don't need to worry about updating it yourself.

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, thank you for jumping in.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,
Jonathan

Hello @sicsacol @SmartHomeH-TAGS ,

I just want to mention that my google devices are set in French.

When is ask google direclty to my Nest to put some music , the Spotify screen will load and then Google will reply ''excusez moi une erreur c'est produite , essayez des que vous pouvez '' (excuse me an error occured, try again when you have a chance )

The error will be the same if I try to cast from my Android device to the Nest , the Spotify screen will load except it wont say any error message (no voice...) and then will go back to the main screen.

I tried to load YouTube Music , it works.

The voice command I used is ''OK Google mets de la musique '' (Ok google put some music on)

I did not change any voice command, always work that way .

Let me know, i'm kinda of frustrated with that thing !

Thank you

Hi @mabilouk,

Thanks for your response and for the additional information shared so far; I understand that this issue also happens when trying to cast Spotify from your phone, though without a voice error, and that YouTube Music works fine. To continue troubleshooting, please try the following steps:

  • Reboot your modem or router. Unplug it from the power source, wait for 2 minutes, and then plug it back in.
  • Move your Nest Hub to a different room, away from devices that may cause signal interference. These include microwave ovens, wireless speakers, baby monitors, and other devices using the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Make sure your Nest Hub is not too far from your router. If so, please move it closer.

Please keep me posted.

Cheers,
Jonathan

OK I tried , and same thing . I'm wondering if it's not the Spotify app on the Nest ?

Is there a way to update/reisntall that App ? how does that work ?

Thanks

Hi @mabilouk,

Thanks for your update, and for trying the previous steps sent. I understand that you're wondering if there is a way to update or reinstall the Spotify app. To check if the issue is with your Nest Hub or with the Spotify app, let's try the following:

  • Ensure the Spotify app is logged in using the same Google account linked to your Nest Hub.
  • Confirm that your Spotify account is a Premium subscription, as some Google Assistant features require it.
  • Try using another phone, if available, to rule out device-specific issues.
  • Make sure both the Google Home and Spotify apps are updated to their latest versions.
  • Perform a factory reset of your Nest Hub; you can find the detailed instructions in this article: Factory reset your Google smart speaker or display.
  • Create a new home structure: Open the Google Home app, tap “Add,” then select “Home.” Follow the on-screen instructions.

Please keep me updated on how it goes after trying these steps.

Regards,
Jonathan

ok this is the same account , i got a premium subscription.

I did use my laptop to cast and its the same issue .

everything is up to date (spotify and Google Home)

i'm still thinkinh about an issue with the Nest update/firmware or the Sportify app on the Nest ..

That's also my understanding. Spotify works everywhere else. Earlier conversation with Google nest staff has not been helpful

Same problem in Australia. Suspected 'handshake issue' with Spotify since 2 weeks ago. Any information Jonathan?

not even sure they are ''Google staff'' ....But yeah those basics steps are already done ... i suspect more the app on the Nest the issue ...Since all my other devices are fine ...

I went through the official channel not the Google nest community. But yeah now my nest is just a nice digital album. Bit disappointed on the lack of comms and recognition that this isn't individual but quite a few users have expedited this

hello ,

@sicsacol @SmartHomeH-TAGS  I did factory reset on the **bleep** thing. and it's the same issue Spotify would not Work.

The app does appear then stop and back to main screen. This is the same error if i try to launch from the Nest itself or if I cast straight from my Android.

You tube music works. I m guessing this is a spotify app issue on the NEST  how could downgrade the version or could even see the version of the apps  installed on my thing.

This is more than frustrating now! few months that thinng is not working properly.

Can you direct me to the right channel or some real technical support ????

Thanks !

I am having the exact same issue. Spotify has been unable to connect now for over a month. Every other devices (Chromecast and Amazon Echo) is working.

official response from Google Home is to contact Spotify. Had a fun Sat night with some helpful Spotify customer care team. Will share more here when I know more

Thank you! Please keep us posted. Really thought it would have been a google issue instead of spotify since its only the nest not connecting to spotify.
