Last week I noticed during the night that my Nest Hub was showing its G screen with brightness at 100%. It has never happen before, so I suppose that it is a bug due some new firmware. I read a new version was released some days ago and my Nest Hub has automatic firmware upgrades enabled. These are my current versions:
Things I have tried (a test per single night):
Some interesting points:
During the G screen, I can increase/decrease the volume. When I disable/enable the micro, the assistant notifies me. Google Home can control remotely the Nest Hub, increase/decrease volume, enable some feature... but the G screen does not dissapear. After some time enabling and disabling things, the G screen dissapear. So, I suspect that some bug related with some feature is triggering the G screen, but everything else is working in the background (at least the user controls).
One interesting point: After having enabled the developer tools, they are disabled the next morning after the bug. Enabling them again, when I enter in the developer options, I can see that my Nest Hub has been restarted 3 or 4 hours ago (about 3:30 AM here in Spain) with reason "Unset". May be doing some cache or flash partial wiping after a race condition as a self-healing mechanism? May this new firmware version require more resources that this hardware does not have actually?
What can we do? I can read other users with other software related issues after the latest firmware. Others with the G screen but without any possibility of recover the device. In my case, I use this device as a bedside clock, but during the next days I will replace it with other traditional one becasue it is getting stuck every single night 😞
Thank you!
