Google Nest Hub won't connect to WiFi.

I see many 'fixes' for this problem, but none have worked.  I moved home recently and cannot get my Nest Hub to connect to the new router.  Every other device in the house (2 x Windows PCs, 1 Mac Pro, 1 Pixel 5 phone and a google Nest Mini) does connect, suggesting there is a problem with the Nest Hub.

I have done four factory resets on the Nest Hub, and gone countless times through the setup process on the Google Home app.  The Pixel detects the Hub, reads the QR code, and connects to it.  But it always fails at the Connecting to Wi-Fi stage, with the message "NestHubxxx could not connect to <router> - please check your password".  Nothing wrong with the password - it worked for everything else, including the Mini.

Unfortunately my son bought it for me online, direct from Google, so there is nowhere I can take it back to.  And Google make it VERY AWKWARD to get any help.  All the online help tells me to do what I have done many, many times already.  I am sick of this and want it fixed, or get a refund or replacement, but where do I go?

I found a fix.  I had to phone Google in the US, but the guy there got me over the line.

My router is dual band, and in all my previous attempts my phone (containing the Google Home app) was connected to the 5G band.  The techie at Google told me to do a factory reset, then connect it to the 2.4G band.   I ran the Home app again and connected the Hub successfully.

Switching the Hub off and on again automatically connected it to the default 5G band.  Then switched my phone back to 5G.  All seems to be working now.

My Google home suddenly stopped working. I tried to reset everything and for a while looked like I was succeeding. No matter how many times I reset, it is not working. Now, I get a new error telling me that my Google wifi router is an OnHub???? and it cannot connect to the my google Wifi point.

I bought the bundle of 4 together and now it tells me the router does not match what I bought?!!

Hi everyone

I still have problem connecting my nesthub to my wifi. My wifi is not even displayed on the Wifis list of my nesthub.

I tried manually to connect it without any result. My routeur is dual band 2.4 and 5G. I tried manually with both  frequencies bands, althought all my others devices are connected with my wifi includoing my galaxy note 9 phone with Home app.

Any help? thank you so much

Olá!

É possível que você tenha de adicionar o endereço MAC do seu monitor Nest Hub à lista de endereços MAC permitidos pelo seu roteador.

Thank you very much anyway

Amazing! Using the Google Home app on an android phone as suggested by Googlewifisucks, worked for me. After trying all the other suggestions in the thread using Google Home app on my iPad and having given up all attempts for several weeks, I saw the android phone suggestion when I scrolled down further in the thread than I had done before. Success immediately!

In case it helps anyone I was also having this issue when I purchased a new router. None of my many Google Home devices would connect to wifi. 2.4G or 5G radio, Wifi4 or Wifi6, made no difference. Turns out that a specific wifi setting was causing the issue, specifically "Protected Management Frames" needed to be disabled (or set to optional). Once this was changed everything started working again.

Unfortunately my new router is optimizing the traffic automatically switching from 2G to 5G regarding something. I have no way to force it to go 2G for some time, nor i have visibility into where are we at the moment. Any other hack how to make the Nest connect to wifi?

Hey folks,

We're sorry if this has been difficult for you. To rule out if this is a network related issue, could you try setting up your Nest Hub Max using a mobile hotspot? You need to have a separate phone that will serve as a source of internet (mobile hotspot) and the other as your setup device. Connect your setup device to the other phone's mobile hotspot and attempt to set up your Nest Hub on that network and see if it will connect.

Kind regards,

Alex

We recently got new internet installed (new router as well) last month after struggling with the speeds ADSL was giving. When we had a heatwave (July/August time) in the UK the speeds of ADSL was just shocking to the point where the next hub lost connection. I restarted it many times with no success so just left it since we were getting new internet installed in September, went to reset and connect it didn’t work. I have tried connecting the device to the 2.4 and 5GHZ (Gigahertz) network separately but it still won’t work. On the google home app when it gets to the 'choose your network' page and I click on the network I want it to connect to it’ll say 'connecting' on the nest hub and on my phone. Then it’ll say that the nest hub is 'connected' on my phone but the nest hub says 'check your internet connection'. Also I have tried setting up the nest hub on a mobile hotspot and it works fine. I’ve reset the nest hub god knows how many time, even reset/rebooted my router and even contacted my ISP but they were no help either. Only thing they did was re-register my new router and tell me to disable 'band steering' which I have done already. I’ve tried disabling 'protected management frames' and turning off '802.11 protection' and that didn’t work either. Google support is useless as they tell u the same thing stated on their help page. It’s either a bug in the app for iPhone as I haven’t tried the android phone solution just yet. I have other Google nest devices such as the nest doorbell battery, 2x nest minis (2nd gen), Chromecast with tv and they have connected just fine as well as all my other devices (phones/iPads, etc).

I've bought nest hub 2nd almost 8 month ago.

One time it disconnected from internet and didn't connect.

I connect it to my mobile phone but choose the name and password of my router. I connect it (do all setup) and then I replace the rooter and it worked.

Always That happened two times in a month.

I've got tired and sold it as a second hand.

I have the same problem now with my chromecast with google tv.

Im disappointed by Google products.

As I experienced I said goodbye to nest hub.

I'm afraid of Google products. (due to too much bugs and errors)

At least I don't have headache anymore.

Good luck everyone

Hey Steve08,

Apologize for the delays. To confirm, which Nest Hub do you have (1st or 2nd gen)? Also, we'd be happy to take a look into this for you. Please fill out this form with all the needed information. This form is only meant for you to use, so let me know once you’re done.

@Amused: We're sorry to hear that you had to sell your Nest Hub. Your feedback is highly appreciated and this will help us to make our product and services even better. Should you decide to give the Google Home/Nest devices another try in the future, we'd be more than happy to help improve your experience.

Cheers,

Muddi
