The last 3 weeks my Nest Mini 2 have lost WiFi connection once a week, I need to reset to factory settings, remove it from my Google Home, and connect it again. then it works a week again. I have 2 more nest mini 2, in my house the are working without problems. I am also using Google WiFi, so there is perfect WiFi in the house. The only thing is one of the nest minis, it have been working for a long time, without any problems, this issue started 3 weeks ago.

I am in Taiwan. Without service here?

Can not upgrade f/w manually?

Hey Marcel,

Thanks for the update. Happy to hear that your devices are now working perfectly with your network.

@Saberas: To confirm, have you tried setting it up on a mobile hotspot?

@Carllin0726: Nest Mini should be officially supported in your country. What is the current firmware version of your device?

Cheers,

Muddi

The current f/w version is 309385, it is different from yesterday(279716).

It looks my NEST mini II just upgrade the f/w while I repowered by these days. I will report you if it keep working or become failure.

Does the latest f/w just fixed the "wifi lost" issue?

Thanks a lot for the support.

I have 5 google devices and one of em (a Nest Mini 2nd gen) just keeps disconnecting every 1-2 days. Needing me to do a factory reset in order to set it up again. Will there ever be a solution?

It may not be necessary to do a factory reset each time. I found that merely disconnecting the power for a few seconds restored the internet. Solved problem by exchanging unit for a new one that has worked well for several months now.

Hi PooDeePee,

Sorry to hear that. Could you try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Nest Mini).

@irvplotkin: Thanks for the input.

This did not work. Listen, I appreciate the troubleshooting but I have 5 devices in my house that are functioning as a speaker and only 1 is having problems for over a year - I do know what I am doing and am very capable of setting them up. If I can set 4 up without problems, the last one should work the same as the other 4 which do not have problems.

At this point I just want a new Google Nest speaker because something is definitely wrong with this one. Why is the same device in the bathroom next to the bedroom not disconnecting every day?

I was in the very same boat. Finally got a new for the non working one and things have been perfect for some 9 months.

I have 4 devices. They worked great for a while. Then a few of them had connection issues. It was hell, and I've even bought some new devices (with the same issue).
After a year or so, suddenly, they all worked great. Till a month of 3 ago. One did have connection issues again. It turned out that one did have a new firmware version.
I suggest: if you have working devices with no troubles. Turn Off Automatic Updates. Google doesn't add new features, and new firmware can only break them.
It is security-wise not the best option to turn off automatic updates. But devices in the house waiting to be connected again aren't also not very safe.

So what has google done exactly to address the issue?

I have 4 minis active and while it did get better for a while a few of them are back to disconnecting periodically (just a lot less frequent than when it was daily)

The issue started when I upgraded to mesh wifi and if I recall correctly they didnt have the disconnection issue during a test on single band wifi 2.4 GHz), but having them on a separate network has its own problems.

It appears that the answer to your question is, nothing.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting.

@lmartins6746, we appreciate all the details you've shared. Have you tried to connect your Nest Mini on your network without involving your mesh network? That way we can further isolate the issue on connectivity.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

I still have the same problems with mine. I have 3 other Nest minis, and 1 older Google home mini that are all connected to the same wifi router. 2 of them further away from the router than the one that gets disconnected every other day. I've tried closing down the 5G network in the router so it only sends out the 2.4G signal. I've tried keeping the settings in Google Home but moving the Mini in to different rooms but it still disconnects from the router after around 24 hours...

Hi HPelgoog,

Please note that when a firmware update is available, your device will automatically download the update via an Over-the-Air (OTA) update. There's no option to force it.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings > Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Cheers,

Muddi

I have the disconnecting issue for at least a year. Tried above solutions but no avail. It says “I can't connect to the Wi-Fi network. You might want to check the connection settings in the Google Home app” mostly, but sometimes it says "I can't reach the internet right now. Check your modem or router connection and try again.". Using 2.4 ghz wifi network (no access points, repeaters or mesh network). Network name has one word English characters, Nest device has a one word English name too. My Google Nest Mini Gen2 is practically next to the router (I have only one Nest Mini). No other devices of mine have issues connecting to the network or disconnecting from the network. Nest device cast firmware version: 1.56.299498. Tried factory reset, isolated network. One of my workarounds is disconnecting from power, wait a min, then reconnecting the power cable. The other one is setting up Mini in Home app (sometimes disconnecting from cable doesn't help, it needs setting up like the first time). My Nest newer worked continuously more than a week. I mostly do reconnecting power cable trick or setting up all over again, every other day.

Our issues were identical and just disconnecting power always restored the net. But it was a PITA. I got a replacement unit and, trust this will not jinx it, have had no problems for 5 months now. I really suspect it is a hardware issue.

My Google mini disconnnect randomly and come by itself, if I force disconnect from the power and reconnect sometimes resolve the problem.  Also the firmware is not updating, I am on 1.56.282045 in Hong Kong.

Hey gm001,

Sorry to hear about your experience. To confirm, have you tried connecting your Nest Mini on a different network like mobile hotspot? This is for us to isolate network issues. Also, how far is your speaker from your router?

Cheers,

Muddi

Thank you for your reply. There are no network issues, the device is 8 meters distance without anything blocking between the AP and the device. When the issue happen other devices are connected on the network without issues.  The device restart as solution shows the issue is on the device. I didn't try to connect to a hotspot as I will not do that for the 1 to 2 hours the device is down.

Hey gm001,

I totally understand your network is working fine, but these are the most helpful steps to figure out what's going on with your device. Let's give them a try!

Thanks,

Muddi

I'm having the same problems again with 3 nest minis.

They kinda crash, are warm on the surface and off.

I don't know why a company like Google cannot fix this. This problem is being reported since months and nothing changed.
