Google Nest Mini Weather problem

roicenieves
Community Member

When asking for the weather without a specified location, such as "What's the weather?", (which should retrieve my home location), the Google Assistant on my Nest Mini responds with "Sorry, I don't understand." However, when asking for a different location, it responds appropriately. My location was set in the settings, and it can even tell where I am.

Hi roicenieves,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Mini isn't providing weather updates for your location. Help’s here!

I understand how frustrating this situation can be. To better investigate the inconvenience, could you please provide the following information?

  • Are there any other Nest speakers in your home? If so, are they experiencing the same inconvenience?
  • What's the firmware version of the affected Nest Mini in the home?

For now, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Check if your home address is correct: The home address is the physical location of your Google Nest or Google Home devices. This address may not be the same address as your work and home locations. For more information, refer to this article: Change Google home address.
  • Make sure that you've set your weather units in the Google Home app. Note: This can’t be done using your voice.
  • Restart your Google Nest Mini. For reference, you can check out this article: Reboot Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  • Ensure that both your mobile device and the Google Home app are up to date with the latest software. This can often resolve compatibility issues.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

There's only one speaker in the house and no other smart devices are connected.

System firmware version: 420420

Home address is correct and properly pinned in the Google Home app, tried restarting and resetting the device but still fails to provide me local weather info.

Hello @roicenieves,

Thanks for posting in the community.
It's frustrating when Google Assistant doesn't recognize your location. I appreciate your effort and the information you have provided. To troubleshoot this issue, please try the following steps:

  • Network Connectivity: Verify that your Nest Mini has a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection or move it closer to the modem or router to get strong WiFi.

If the above checks are in order, try these steps:

  1. Unplug your Google Nest or Home speaker or display. Wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the device to reboot, then try to ask the assistant your question again.
  2. Reboot your modem and router.
  3. If there are nearby devices that may cause interference, such as microwave ovens, wireless speakers, baby monitors, Wi-Fi routers, and other devices using the 2.4 GHz band, try to move your speaker or display to a different room.
  4. If you get these errors frequently, try to move your speaker or display closer to your router.
  5. You have already performed a reset on the device, so let's try performing another factory reset on the device, but take it closer to the modem and follow the steps on this link: Factory reset Google Nest Mini.

Please try the steps above and let me know how it goes. I will continue helping you if needed.

All the best,
Jorge

Tried rebooting both Nest Mini and modems, factory reset the Nest mini multiple times and reconnect to both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi.

But when I tried placing it in a different home with a different address (in the Home app) the weather command works. Moved it back to my actual home and tinkered with the Home address but still it can't understand.

Hi roicenieves,

Thanks for following up on the weather inconveniences you're experiencing with your Nest Mini.

I apologize for this glitch between the home structures. As you mentioned, the weather works fine in another home structure with a different address. You can try creating a new home structure with your current address and adding the Nest Mini to it.

You could also try deleting the Google Home app and reinstalling it. If these steps don't resolve the inconvenience, please share your feedback so we can continue improving our products.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards

Jenniffer

Deleting all Google Home info and basically restarting the whole Google Home experience didn't work, but I did find a workaround. It seems like there is a problem with the location pinning, especially on specific and precise addresses, changing my home address in the Google Home app to an approximate location that Google can understand fixes the issue but having problems with presence sensing, which I don't mind at the moment.

It's weird that I didn't do anything before it is broken. A suggestion would be for the Google Home app to support Plus Code addresses from Google Maps as pinned locations also don't work.
