Google Nest Mini cannot communicate with iPhone

My wi-fi provider has recently changed, so I have been trying to set up my Google Nest Mini and connect it to the new wifi. However after initially connecting, the following error message comes up within the Google Home app, “Something went wrong. Google Nest Mini may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again.” This setting is already enabled, I have tried restarting my phone, my Google Home app, and tried reconnecting on multiple occasions and the same error message still comes up. Looking for some assistance- thanks.

Have you managed to figure it out, I changed uni accom and this is the first time I’ve had this, I’m trying to set it up it gets to the end then says about the communication thing 😞 I’ve tried so much stuff

no luck- I too recently just moved to uni so it seems to be the same thing. a customer service agent from the wifi network said

“We have reviewed the connection and it seems like due to the architecture of the network it will not be possible for these devices to communicate between eachoter. It comes from the fact that your iPhone and speaker are connecting on the different VLAN protocols.”

I was hoping one one on this forum would have some recommendations.

Oh okay that is so strange since my last 2 accoms I was able to connect no problem, after adding the MAC address

So I did some more digging , my accom wifi provider is ASK4 and it says I have to buy the wifi add on which will let me allow my devices to communicate together it’s £15😭

mine is Glide- but that option isn’t available for my building yet:/

I had glide last time !!! Okay so basically what I did in my last accom was to do with the MAC ADDRESS, find your speaker / chrome casts MAC address then add the device, not sure if you tried that but when I did it, it worked in my last 2 glide wifi accommodations

I can’t remember the precise way I did it but if you can’t figure it out I can try and work out how I did it last time tomorrow morning 🙂

yes I’ve added the max address- contacted the glide customer service to approve the device and he came back with the response in the original post

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting and apologies for the late response. Your speaker or display might not be able to connect to public Wi-Fi networks such as business networks, shared apartment networks, school dorm networks, school networks, and mobile hotspots or pocket Wi-Fi devices. You can only connect it to a private network that has a password. To know more you can check out this link: https://goo.gle/2rffWpY

Keep me posted.
