Google Nest Mini play wrong songs and playlists on Spotify

URGENT! RECURRENT ISSUE! PLEASE FIX ASAP! THIS IS VERY ANNOYING! PLEASE STOP MESSING UP WHAT'S OK!! THIS WAS FIXED!!

SAME problem described HERE: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Google-Nest-Mini-play-wrong-songs-and-p...

(you should not LOCK topics, because they can be REUSED!!)

Since YESTERDAY, when i try to play "Discover Weekly" PLAYLIST on Google Nest Mini, it plays something else (an LP, a song, etc, called "Discover" or "Discovery", etc) and DOES NOT PLAY the "Discover Weekly" Playlist!

From almost 6 months i said "Hey Google, Play Discover Weekly PLAYLIST", and all was FINE!

Suddenly, it doesn't play the only playlist called "Discover Weekly" that i have on my profile!

What changed???

I could make it play ONCE again (but ONLY ONE TIME!) saying "Play the Spotify Playlist called Discover Weekly"! But now not even this complex command works!!!

Here are a few ways to rewrite the sentence "This problem makes the Google Nest almost useless to play music," depending on the nuance you want to convey:

More formal:

  • This issue severely limits the Google Nest's functionality as a music player.
  • This problem renders the Google Nest nearly ineffective for playing music.

More emphatic:

  • This problem completely undermines the Google Nest's ability to play music.
  • This issue makes the Google Nest practically worthless for music playback.

More concise:

  • This problem significantly hinders the Google Nest's music playback.
  • This issue almost entirely prevents music on the Google Nest.

Focusing on the user experience:

  • This problem makes it nearly impossible to enjoy music on the Google Nest.
  • This issue greatly impacts the user's ability to listen to music on the Google Nest.

More neutral:

  • This problem significantly affects the Google Nest's music playing capabilities.

Also, Routines won't execute.

The device tries to play something with the routine name...

I have a SLEEP routine, and the device now plays a spotify playlist called SLEEP!

It was already SOLVED by YOU and SPOTIFY in JUNE.

It CAME BACK last week!

P.S. I already have a CASE open (yet this is a general issue)

@gmelanymelissa How long will we have to wait for a REFIX?

My devices are mostly unusable because of this recurring BUG / problem!

Dear god!

I have the devices for 1 year, and i never had something that keeps BREAKING usability so much!

I would not expect something like this from Google!

You need to REORGANIZE your TEAMS!!

Google!!!

Commenting to confirm I’m experiencing the same issue as well and have been for weeks now. Incorrect playlists and albums are being played with similar words in them instead of the correct playlist in my library. No amount of troubleshooting as fixed anything, and I’ve tried relinking accounts, signing in and out, uninstalling, and repairing speakers. This is the exact same bug that was supposedly fixed back in June.

It WAS fixed!!!

Now it was reintroduced... just like many other BUGS that are solved and come back again.

This is complete nonsense...

Probably programmers are to blame on this huge flops...

Can confirm I've also been having the same issue for a couple of weeks now. It's happened in the past, lasts for a few weeks, then it is somehow fixed. Very annoying.

Getting worse really!!

In the last few days the play is even more erratic! Playing nonsense songs and playlists...

What the hell Google!

Why do you keep messing up situations that were already fixed???

Thankfully at least it seems like Spotify is looking into it. There’s an active thread on their forum at the link marcolopes posted above. I posted this info over there, but here’s all my device information.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Current OS: 18.1.1

Google Home mini speaker

System firmware version: 437716

Cast firmware: 3.74.437716

Spotify version (current release): 8.9.94

Google Home app version (current release): 3.26.103

To be clear, there is nothing we as users can do on our end to troubleshoot this issue, as pairing and repairing speakers, unlinking and relinking accounts, deleting and updating apps, trying different phrases- nothing works to address this issue.

Once again...

Google Home APP and Spotify APP are not the issue here!!

The Google Nest ecosystem work without any app installed!!!

The Google Home App is needed only to CONFIGURE the devices!

The Spotify App is NOT needed for anything!! (the music provider must me configured through the Google Home App)

So... when Google ASKS for Google Home APP and Spotify APPS VERSIONS it's a RED FLAG about how they perceive how their own HARDWARE ecosystem WORKS!!!!!

Any progress on this fix?

Nothing changed...

Not even the routines can be executed using voice commands!!

All working as expected since yesterday!!

Please tell us what was changed and WHO changed it!

Was it fixed from Spotify side / Google side / or both??

Please respond Google. This is ridiculous.

marcolopes

STILL broken!!!

This is nonsense!

Is this an issue caused by Spotify or Google (or BOTH?)

Not even Google HOME routines WORK!

If i say "Sleep" (i have a routine named Sleep) the device says "Playing Spotify playlist called Sleep"!!!! That's NOT what's supposed to happen! It should "play" the ROUTINE, not a Spotify playlist!

So... nothing was fixed. Is that so hard to do? You did it before!!! Why the delay??

My devices are useless and i need to know who's fault this is!

I am having the same issue. For example when I have my bedtime routine I put in under : What music would you like to play?
Play ‘Sleep lofi’ for 40 minutes.

This action has been playing fine until a few nights when it started to play another playlist called ‘lofi sleep’ or even worst it will play “lofi beat hip hop community, lofi beat, lofi chillhop’ which is highly annoying because even using the quotation marks, the routine doesn’t even work properly now and just playing random playlists. It seems like the Google home is not reading the instructions properly and not producing the correct result.

How is Google unable to have their products read simple instructions?

Why do every upgrade seem to make Google routines a bad client experience?

Please resolve!

VOICE commands PRIORITY should be:

1) ROUTINES!!!

2) MUSIC!!!

a) Personal PLAYLISTS!

b) Public PLAYLISTS!

c) LP's and SONGS

Any of those SHOULD BE OVERRIDED by a "complete command" like:

1) "Execute / play the SLEEP routine" (no... it plays the SLEEP PLAYLIST!!!!)

2) "Play the Spotify PLAYLIST called Discover Weekly" (no... it plays the XXXXXXX LP!!!)

So... the priority is WRONG when issuing a simple command (ex: "Play Discover Weekly" or "Sleep")

And the worst part... the command is NOT executed correctly when issuing a complete command!!

But "you" (Google) already KNOW this!!!

This was ALREADY FIXED!

STOP messing with this please!!!

This is mess renders the devices almost USELESS!

Same problem here....any fix around? Already filled the form mentioned above. It´s not much fun with Google Nest Home like this....

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I sincerely apologize for the ongoing inconvenience you’re facing with the "Discover Weekly" playlist on your Google Nest Mini.

I understand that it used to work perfectly when you said, "Hey Google, play Discover Weekly," and that now it is playing incorrect content, such as "Discover" or "Discovery." This sudden change is indeed concerning, and I know it's frustrating after it was working fine for months.

We are aware that this issue has been affecting multiple users and we are actively working on a solution to ensure that it is fixed as soon as possible. spotify mod 2025

So things have been a little strange on my end. I don’t use voice commands, only automations. When people started reporting issues again a few weeks ago, automations were still working fine for me and playing the correct playlist.

However, now there seems to be issues happening in automations again as well. Where before it would play a random playlist on Spotify, now it plays a random playlist in my library with a similar name. It’s better than before (since at least it’s now contained to my own random playlists and not ALL of Spotify,) and I haven’t tried renaming my own playlists to obscure things yet to see if that helps, but I wasn’t having this issue before with automations.

Automations DON'T work through voice commands...

The command always triggers some SONG, LP or MUSIC PLAYLIST (with or without a MUSIC provider selected)

This is absolutely NONSENSE!

I can "understand" why the voice commands mess up the Spotify PLAY (the SEARCH ORDER is messed up once and again... this is not new) but the ROUTINES???

ABSOLUTE PRIORITY should be given to the ROUTINE NAMES!!! Period!!!

Same issue here. It's been going on since December. There is nothing we can do, they need to fix it on their ends. 😞

See the Spotify thread... also good info: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Google-Assistant-devices-re-direct-to-random-albums-wi...

They worked together with Google to resolve the SAME problem last year... yet... no resolution this time :\\\

I am hoping that once they implement Gemini it'll fix some of these issues... I tried applying to the public preview thing but haven't heard back yet. I am worried that my devices aren't new enough. Has anyone that has Gemini preview on their devices noticed that it works? I think  Google Assistant is on its way out so they mut be putting in less effort into it. Apparently, since last year, android users with the Gemini app on their phones can control their devices with it. If anyone has an android and is also having these issues, can you try a command on the Gemini app and see if it works? It would give me reassurance that once they (hopefully) add it to all their devices, we will be able to play the correct playlists again.

How long before a FINAL fix for this?

For almost a YEAR we have this recurring problem!

I've wasted MORE TIME with problems, REPORTING them, and helping GOOGLE FIX THEM, than USING the devices!!!!

MORE than that!!!

This issue renders the use of ROUTINES completely USELESS!!!!!!

When u say "Hey Google, SLEEP" - being "sleep" a PERSONALIZED Google Home ROUTINE, and the device says "Okidoky!!! PLAYING SPOTIFY PLAYLIST CALLED SLEEP"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! turns the whole ecosystem into pure NONSENSE!

WHY??? Why is google taking SO LONG to resolve this ISSUE ONCE AGAIN???????????

IT's NOTHING NEW!!!!!!!!!!

It was introduced last year...

IT WAS FIXED!!!

It was reintroduced again!!!!!

Does Google have such bad PROGRAMMERS?

Does Google have an infiltrated MOLE on the development teams that keep REINTRODUCING BUGGY CODE to degrade Google Image????

WHAT???

I JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND!!!

THIS WAS FIXED ALREADY!!!!

Why do you PUNISH USERS with such nonsense!!!

Since i bought the Google Nest devices I've wasted A LOT OF TIME of my LIFE helping GOOGLE fix BUGS that keep being REINTRODUCED!!!!!

THIS... IS... COMPLETE... NONSENSE!!!!

Google! This problem still remains!!

I sent several FEEDBACKS through the devices weekly!

I don't understand!!!

A swear I don't!

I cannot use TRANSLATE on my Google Nest Mini devices for MONTHS now!

Used to work ok!

Now, when i say "Hey Google, translate to ..." and say what to translate, Google Nest responds "Sorry, something went wrong" every time on ALL my decices!

Almost NOTHING works on these devices anymore!!!

Google broke ALMOST EVERYTHING!!!!

ROUTINES don't play!

PLAYLISTS don't play!

TRANSLATE does not work!!

What is going on GOOGLE?!?!?

Anyone knows how to FIX this?

This used to work, and i gave it great use! 😕

Google keeps breaking this whole ecosystem...

Why was this topic merged here?

These are 2 separate problems!

"I cannot use TRANSLATE on my Google Nest Mini devices for MONTHS now!" has nothing to do with this topic!
