Google Nest intermittently answers in German

Dubque150

My Nest Audio and Nest Mini keep answering in German. English is my only set-up language. Strange thing is that when I check the transcripts, it actually understood I was speaking in English. It understood my request, but still answered in German, saying it didn't understand what I asked for.

Did factory reset several times and both of them intermittently in German.

I saw that @the_baker had the same issue, but there wasn't a resolution.

Hi @Dubque150

May I ask your region?  Please try clearing the Google Home and the Google apps' cache on your Android. See if that helps.

Good suggestions. I live in the USA. I have cleared my cache on my google home android app(s). The problem never occurs on my phone. Only on my Google mini's. I check the transcript, and see that google recorded my question in English. It will just spontaneously respond in German. I repeat the question/command and it replies correctly in English.

Thanks for trying the app cache clears. I honestly have no idea why this is happening. I escalated this over to our support team. They may know of a bug or if there are any known issues.

In the meantime, if you can, please file a feedback report via the Google Home app.

Hi Dubque150,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? When you did the reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link?

We appreciate you checking the transcripts and making sure the language is set to English. How about if we check the home location. Follow the steps below:

Change home and work locations:

  1. Make sure the customer's mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top-right, tap the account icon.
  4. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon > choose another account or Add another account.
  5. Tap Assistant Settings.
  6. Tap You > Your places.
  7. To edit a home or work address, tap the current address > type a new address > OK.
  8. To remove a home or work address, tap Remove next to the address.

Change the home address:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top, make sure the home name is listed. If needed, tap the name to change the home.
  3. Tap Settings > Home information > Home address.
  4. Enter the address > Save.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for helping, JillG!
