Google Next Speakers and Spotify (Kids account)

AdamPie86

I've seen a few threads on this, but none seem to give a straight answer.

We have several Nest Minis at home and have one in my sons room, who is 9. He has his own spotify account linked to his Google home app via his own email.

The Spotify account isn't set up as a Kids account, but there are controls to limit explicit content.

When he asks to play anything from Google, it links to my spotify.  Everything looks to be set up correctly, with voice match and the account assigned to google home.

But anytime he asks to play music on Google it links to my account, which has no controls.

We've had a few close calls of him listening to things he shouldn't, due to Spotify playing similar songs.

I'm sure this wasn't an issue in the past, but it seems to be now. Considering trading in the Nest set up for Alexa

Hello AdamPie86,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry for this experience.

Make sure your son's email account is linked to the Google Nest Mini in his room. Once done, reconfigure his voice match in the Google Home app. You can also unlink and relink his Spotify account, then have him try to play music using his speaker.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hi @LovelyM

I haven't tried this since the post, but I did try this before and due to the age settings on the account it said it was not an option

Hello AdamPie86,

I understand. If you have the Family Link app to manage your child's account and devices, please try the following steps: go to the Family Link app > Tap on your child's name > Select Controls > Content Restrictions > Google Assistant > Turn on Third-party apps. Relink your child's Spotify account again.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Lovely

I don't have the option for 3rd party apps. I have third party actions available as an option, but no options other than a toogle, which is switched on.

I've attempted to invite him as a member to the Google home family group, but get an error stating that I must be connected to WiFi, even though I am. I've also tried to link his Spotify via the Google home app on his device and get an error

Hello AdamPie86,

Sorry for the delayed response. Please answer the following: how old is your child? What phone model are you using? What's your Google Home app version?

I look forward to your response so we can look into this issue closer.

Kind regards,
Lovely
