Google assistant plays music from Spotify when I ask it to set an alarm.

Long time Google home user and every few months a new issue makes me wonder why I bothered with this awful ecosystem.

I usually set an alarm on my speaker using the command, "Hey Google, wake me up in X minutes"

(This is how your website tells me how to best set an alarm)

Recently my speaker has started responding by not setting an alarm, but playing music from Spotify according to my command.

Example,

"Hey Google, wake me up in 15 minutes"

Google responds with

"Playing wake me up in 15 minutes on Spotify"

Proceeds to play at full volume a very loud screeching music track that I can barely interrupt.

Utterly incompetent ecosystem.

A timer is the usual short term solution, but "Hey Google, 15 minute Alarm" works too.

I did try it your way and it set an alarm for me.

You might have to make an automation with that 15 minute phrase to override Google's AI instincts.

Appreciate the reply. Indeed, this behavior has only started happening recently to me but it's incredibly frustrating.

It seems that in my case Google prioritizes Spotify and picks up a song with the name "Wake me up in 15 minutes"

• I searched for that song on Spotify and it contains explicit lyrics, so if you put in place the filter in Settings  >  Digital Wellbeing to only play non-explicit songs then it might execute your request. instead.

• another option is to use "Hey Google, wake me up in 900 seconds"

Yes, these great suggestions. I imagine both would work fine;

To play devil's advocate though; it's really it's something I shouldn't have to to do. Especially since it previously acted as expected.

These devices are supposed to make things more convenient; not less.
