Google home and Apple Music

Redgiraffe

I have tried everything.   I will tell Google to play Music, and it will say playing music on Apple Music, and then nothing comes out of the speakers. I end up having to manually do it through the Google Home app.

I have tried rebooting my router. I have tried rebooting the Google Home. I’ve tried unlinking and relinking the Apple Music app, and I cannot find a single solution to fix this. Please help.

Hi Redgiraffe,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Was it working before and were there any recent changes?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Also, to listen to Apple Music on a speaker or display, you must link their Google account with your Apple Music account. Note: An Apple Music subscription is required to play music with Google Nest and Home devices.

Additionally:

  • Make sure your music provider accounts are linked to your speaker or display.
  • If you're not getting the music you expect, be more specific with your request.
    • Add "...by [Artist]" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play a song by Sia.")
    • Add "... album, playlists, song" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play my morning rock playlist.")
  • If you want to listen to music that's not from your default service, add "...on [music service]" to your request.

Give them a try and let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

It’s a Google Home mini. This started maybe a month ago if I told my Google to do other things it does that no problem when I tell it to play music it says playing music on Apple Music but nothing comes out. It doesn’t play anything I did what you suggested I unplugged my router unplugged the Google home mini for three minutes restarted my phone unlink the Apple Music app and re-linked it and still it will not play music. The only way I can do it is through the app. It will not do it through voice command, so I’m out of ideas.

are used to be able to command it to play music without any problems and I haven’t changed anything so I don’t know why all of a sudden it doesn’t want to respond as I said if I tell it to do anything else it has no issue it just will not play music even though it saying it was playing music

Hey Redgiraffe,

Thanks for trying. To confirm, are you able to play music from different music services like YouTube Music and Spotify? Also, what country are you located in?

Cheers,

Muddi

USA.  I don’t use any other music services except Apple Music.

Hello Redgiraffe,

Got it! Trying a different music service will help us to isolate the issue. Could you try these commands: "Hey Google, play music on YouTube Music." If that works, try the same command and replace the music service to Apple Music.

Keep us posted.

Yeah, if I happen to say Google play music on Apple Music it will play I never had to do that before so I don’t know why the change in command.   I used to be able to just say hey Google play music and it would just play from my default which has always been Apple Music

thanks for all the help

Hi Redgiraffe,

Got it! Let's check the status of your Apple Music account. Follow the steps below to know how:

  1. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Account, then choose View My Account.
  2. Scroll to the Settings section. Next to Subscriptions, click Manage.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey there,

Thanks for trying. To confirm, do you have a premium account with Apple Music? Could you tell us the specific command that you're saying so we can try it here on our end.

Cheers,
