Google home mini

I've followed the simple 5 step renaming process for my Google mini 1st gen device. When I enter the new name, and tap "Save," I soon find the name has reverted back to the original name. The change won't stick. The new name shows up initially, but if I click edit, I see the old name again. If I go back to my Google home, I'll see the device has retained the old name. At my wits end.A ny suggestions?

Hi Hailstone,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you're referring to changing the name of your Google Home Mini from the Home app, you can follow these simple steps.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Wi-Fi and then Devices.
  3. Tap the device that you want to change the name of.
  4. Rename your device. Your changes will autosave.

Note: This will only change how the device’s name appears in the app. To change the name back in the app to the original device name, delete the text.

Let me know if it works.

Hi Hailstone,

  • Sorry to miss you and thanks for the suggestion Princess. I don't see wifi or icon? My home splash screen lists devices by room. I select a device, then settings, then "device information", then "name." I don't see another way to do it?

Hi there,

Can you go ahead and try this?

  1.  Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right corner, tap Settings and then Device information and then Device name.
  5. Enter a new name and then tap Save.

Let me know how it goes.
