Google home not responding and playing music

92blacktt
Community Member

I am having trouble with my google nest / home system where the issue started when my voice command to cast music to speaker groups stopped working.  I can still cast them using voice to individual speakers.  The feedback I get can include "playing music on XXXX" with no music actually playing or "Sorry, youtube isn't installed at the moment".  The home system also stopped responding to play/pause requests using voice commands to my TV.  All of this used to work fine.

But its getting worse now, I cannot cast youtube to my speaker groups even manually using the android app.  However spotify works fine 100% of the time!  I would like to continue using Youtube Premium and not switch to spotify subscription.  Any sugestions?

I contacted google support a few times regarding my home system now working correctly but its not getting resolved and I am not being helped.

I currently have: 3 nest mini (2nd gen), 1 nest mini (1st gen), 2 google chromecast with google tvs, 1 google hub display (2nd gen) and 2 nvidia shield pro 2019s in my system.

It does not work, I also followed all the steps.

I also just replaced all the devices as suggested by google and the issue persists. The other thread was locked for some reason so I made this one so people can continue to get some sort of support.

Is there a patch released for fix or anything we can do?

Dan, I am still having additional issues with the two google tv devices.  Told RMA would be issued within 24 hours over two weeks ago, still have not received it.  @Dan_A .  The devices are unstable.  Support is not helping me or responding and this has been pending since july.

Hi Dcox,

I’m sorry to hear you’re not able to play YouTube Music using your Google Nest speaker even after doing all those troubleshooting steps. Check out this guide. I need you to follow the instructions on how to set YTM as default. I also suggest you try playing a different music platform and let me know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi, I did follow your guide and had previously done all those steps and more before.

However, on Wednesday my google speakers started to all of sudden start working although i haven't made any changes.

Thank you for any fixes that were done.

No nothing has been fixed

No. Do not lock this thread. Dan_A said he was going to provide an update once the developers implement the identified fix. Did you not read through the thread??

Hey Dcox,

I'm happy to hear that you are able to play music now on your Google Home/Nest device.

@92blacktt and wavedashdoc: Can you try rebooting your devices and see if you will still have the same issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Did the developers implement the fix? Still waiting for @Dan_A to provide an update as he stated he would.

So it's been since November 2022, what is the status on the "fix" @Dan_A

So for whatever reason, it's working again. It's been working since the March 2023 Pixel update for both my 7 and 6a.

I am still having issues using YouTube Music with the Chromecast with Google TV in the speaker groups. Using Google Home App. I have done lots of trialling of different ways to make it work. So far the only way I can get the Chromecast with Google TV to play music is to create a speaker group with out them devices included then turn on the TV's with the Chromecast with Google TV's on first before connecting them one at a time. The group that doesn't include the Chromecast with Google TV will even work from the casting option in Youtube Music? The Chromecast with Google TV, if I cast directly to them one at a time the TV will turn on as it is set to do in both the devices setting. I am frustrated too I liked the Google TV device so I purchased two more for my other TV's seeing that they were supposed to work with speaker groups??

I tried this a variety of ways and only get the error that "something went wrong, try again later", from the Google Home app. If I start with CCWGTV then add other speakers or speaker groups and vice versa. All no luck with YouTube music.

Hi There I got that occasionally. But found i had to hit the stop casting button and clear any previous groups and start again. Clearing the cache on ios devices I flick up from bottom of screen then flick off the Google Home app. Hope that makes sense

This did not help with my issues

Hey 92blacktt,

To confirm, do you still have the same issues when playing music from YouTube Music only? Have you tried using a different music service?

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes i’ve tried Spotify and it is better with speaker groups. Occasionally speakers don't respond? So far i still have to go to each tv with chromecast with google tv and turn tv on and select the input.

I had the problem with Amazon music and switched to Spotify. They all do the same scam. Probably be having an increase in price in the near future.

Hi all,

since 3 or 4 days I'm experiencing the same problem: all of the sudden, when I ask my Nest Mini to play music with YouTube Music Premium configured as default and only provider, they say it's not possible and play instead a video on YouTube on my only Nest Hub. No changes on my side, it gave error from night to day and I tried all steps suggested (reinstalling apps, rebooting devices, readding to Google Home, factory reset, etc.) pluss I corss-checked with Spotify free and this works fine. It simply seems that Google Home does not recognize YTM as provider but YouTube video instead. Is there any new feedback on this? As you can imagine, this is very annoying, especially considering that I'm paying for the premium family subscription of YTM and customer care is unable to provide an answer (they bounced me here...).

Thanks in advance, regards!

Any updates on these issues?  I replaced all the devices like google support asked.  I reset the home and created new home but now after some days google home does not even recognize any of the devices, like "living room speaker".  It responds to me, "Sorry I don't understand" for everything.  It is completely useless now.

Any resolution at all yet?

Hi, is there any resolution to these issues?

NEERAJKSAIL

Seen so many queries for the same issue that I am facing.

I haven't been able to say " hey Google play music" without it telling me " I look for that but it either isn't available or can't be played right now"

No solution anywhere. What to do?

No solution.  I have been having this kind of issue for over a year now.  I exchanged all the devices like google told me to do, reset the homes many times and still no solution.  I think there is no solution and somehow the ecosystem of devices will not function like they used to.
