Google home restarts radio stream with tunein ad

I listen to a tunein radio and paused/stopped the stream. Sometime later, the stream is restarted with a tunein ad without any commands from me. This behavior seems to have started just recently. I do not have a tunein subscription. If I listen to a non tunein radio station this does not happen. At this point, we have resorted to unplugging the box after use.

Radio stations are always a mainstay especially when our favorite radio is on. Let me ask some questions first to know where to begin. 

 

What Google Nest speaker do you have? Have you had any information from TuneIn about this since it’s only happening with them? What non-TuneIn radio station have you tried?

 

I know that you’ve resorted to unplugging it after use but this time around, how about if you do a sequential reboot starting with our WiFi router then your Nest speaker and tell me how it goes.

When I listen to a tunein radio station on google home, every 30 minutes an ad is injected into the stream, most times mid song. I stop the stream and don't listen to anything else. At the 30 minute ad interval, google home starts playing an ad and then the radio stream starts without any command from me. It seems that tunein does not understand that the stream has stopped.

I reported the issue to google home support and they suggested that I report the issue to tunein. I reported the problem to tunein and they said everything was working as designed.

 

I have rebooted router and issue continues.

 

 

I forgot to mention that I informed the radio station about the issue. They informed me that they do not integrate with tunein and suggested that I listen via another app.

Hello there,

What is the radio station you're trying to play and why is it when you called them, they told you they don't integrate with tune-in? Is that the reason why you're having this kind of concern? What is the exact command you're giving and where are you playing it? Also, what Google Nest device are you using?

Yes the issue is still occurring. I suspect a software issue in the goggle home tower since the stream restarts without any commands from me.

Hi kimcurran,

Could you please provide the cast firmware of your Google Nest speaker?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

I am having the same issue. I had it on an older Google Home mini, and just replaced it with Google Nest. The new device exhibits the same behavior.

System Firmware version: 313652

Cast Firmware: 1.56.313652.

I ask Google to "play WRUL" and it does (via TuneIn). Then I tell google "Stop" and it does. A few minutes later an ad plays on the nest speaker. I tell google "Stop" and google continues playing the ad.
