Google home speaker group not working as it should

Setup:

Google Nest Wifi Router

Google Nest Mini

Google Nest Wifi Access Point

Bang & Olufsen M5 (Chromecast built-in)

Issue: I used Google Home to create a speaker group for my devices. Up until recently, I had all my speakers (above) operating in one speaker group called “all speakers”.

A few months ago, I’m not sure what happened but, when run play on “all speakers” only the AP and the Nest Mini play music; the B&O M5 no longer plays music. All these speakers work perfectly if run individually through Google Home. I have tried deleting and recreating the speaker group; it doesn't make a difference.

Workaround: All three speakers work as a group if I delete the speaker group and create a new group with just the B&O M5, play music and then add the 2x Google speaker devices. However, when I do this, the Nest Mini intermitted disconnects and reconnects to the speaker group (it makes the sound like its paired)

I would appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this problem. Thank you

I have the same problem. I have Chromecast Dongles mixed into a speaker group. Until a few months ago, they would broadcast. One day it just stopped. I'm currently working with tech support to find this. Sounds like they are going to replace all my Chromecast Dongles with the new HD ones?  Idk. They need to find a solution because I have several TV's with surround sound that I broadcast music to as well as my Nest speakers. I built this system because it had the capability to do this. It worked just fine for the last few years, then all the sudden stopped about 6 weeks ago.

Are you aware of the sonus lawsuit, google was found to be infringing on their patents and apparently quite a few functions had to be disabled/changed/removed wondering if some of your problem has to do with all that.  I cannot find a comprehensive article on exactly what the suit was over but it sounds like it was pretty big stuff.

I just found this, don't understand half of it but you might, https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/08/google-hits-back-at-sonos-with-voice-command-patent-lawsuit/

Hi Jake, I mean, this doesn’t address the problem. My issue exists and I’ve not seen any proposed solutions. Would you be able to help please?

Hey folks,

Speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above. If possible, try resetting one of your speakers and B&O M5 to see if that helps.

Alex
