Google mini loudly announcing what it streams from routine

hi,

I have a google mini upstairs which I have a routine (set volume to 12,  Play Radio :BBC radio 6, play on: upstairs) to start BBC Radio 6 at a low volume in the morning. In the past five or so weeks , it has started saying "streaming BBC six music from the BBC" loudly before then playing radio 6 at the low volume I set. It's a harsh wake up call.

I have two google minis downstairs, paired, that it does not do this to with an identical routine.
Have searched in this forum and on google but can't see what could be causing it or how to resolve.

Upstairs google mini firmware: 384934, cast firmware: 2.58.384934
Downstairs: google minis firmware: 375115/384934 cast: 2.57.375114/2.58.384934

I have power reset the upstairs mini, deleted and recreated the routine but it continues. Have checked all over settings but cannot see any difference between the two, or anything which may stop this.

Any ideas?  What can i try next?
Thanks
Steve

Hi suggs69,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that the automations in your Google Nest speakers are not working as you expected. No worries; I'm here to assist! To help, I just need some information. Can you please answer the next questions?

About the upstairs speaker:

  • Is this speaker part of multiple routines?
  • Is this a personal or household routine?

About the downstairs speakers:

  • Is the Activate Routine toggle enabled?
  • Are the speakers part of a speaker group?
  • Can you see the automation executed in the home history?

Knowing this information will allow me to see possible steps that might solve this. If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post; I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

hi Nery,

thanks for the reply. Hopefully the info I get is useful to you..

About the upstairs speaker:

  • Is this speaker part of multiple routines?
  • Is this a personal or household routine?

Not totally sure what you mean by multiple routines.   There is one Personal routine for weekdays set to play radio at a time, and one that is for a different time on weekends.  I have created identical one in Household Routine but the same thing happened.  in the routine it adjusts the volume then plays the radio.  the activate routine is on.

About the downstairs speakers:

  • Is the Activate Routine toggle enabled?  Yes
  • Are the speakers part of a speaker group?  Yes
  • Can you see the automation executed in the home history?  Oddly not.  In Home Activity (same as history?) I only see Household routines in there (the light I switch on/off) and the upstairs speaker when I tested it in household routine.

After submitting this, the next day the downstairs speakers now announce the routine loudly.

Thanks,Steve

Hi suggs69,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I'm glad to hear that the speaker group is now working as you expected.

Currently, we've made some changes in the Google Assistant, including some features of the routines in the speakers. You can read that information in the article about the changes we're making to Google Assistant.

About the speaker that speaks loudly before starting the automation, you can send feedback through the Google Home App. These comments go directly to the technical team and help us make the best decisions.

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further.

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Nerys,

I'm confused on a couple of things...

I never said the speaker group was working as expected, I said it was doing the same as the other speaker.. ie.  Announcing loudly a quiet setting.

The link you posted to what has changed just said some things have changed, not what has changed.

I am still in the same situation.

Thanks, Steve
