Google nest/home speakers have a problem with volume when playing only from YouTube music.

When music is played from YouTube music it is extremely quiet. I know I am not alone with this problem and it has gone ignored for far too long! I think it all started after Google was sued by Sonos and had to remove synced volume changing. I have been dealing with this for years, and it just keeps getting worse. This plagues ALL of my devices.

I own:

1 Google Home (the original tower one)

2 Google Home Max

3 Google mini

2 Nest Speakers

4 Nest Mini

1 Nest Hub Max

2 Nest Hub

Every single one has this problem. Currently I have 2 Home Max, 2 Nest, 2 Nest Mini, and 1 Nest Hub Max in the same room in a speaker group. All are set to 50% I have tried having everything paired up into their left and right groups and all as single units in the group. No joke my portable JBL Clip 3 speaker is louder. It's about the size of the minis(I say this for comparison)

Why is it I have several speakers at 50% that is quiet.

Let's run through all the troubleshooting I've done. I have hard reset every single one, I have reset the home app and YouTube app, forced quit both home app and YouTube music, removed my account, tried playing from multiple phones, checked ALL settings in the all apps to see if there is a hearing protection, or accessibility settings that is limiting it.

Please note I have tested Pandora and Spotify. Zero problems, they blast. It is only YouTube music, never had the problem on Google music.

This has been tracked for a little over 2 or 3 years, but I'm tired of having to turn speakers to 90 to 100% for a comfortable listening experience. Especially with 2 Google Home Max's. It's ridiculous, so please Google employees tell me what you want me to try? Oh yes I have tried them all on 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi, yes I have more than enough bandwidth about ½Gig down and 100mbps up. This is run through a 3 Linksys Velop tri band mesh system, so a 2.4ghz band and 2-5ghz bands(one for wireless backhaul, even though all access points have wired backhaul)

So go ahead and fire away with suggestions, please read the troubleshooting steps I've done. I don't really want someone coming in saying "oh restart them, unplug them, turn your phone off" I promise you all of these basic troubleshooting steps have been taken and it is ONLY YouTube music with the problem.

I truly do hope you can help, or at least report a bug to the Dev team.

Thanks,

Spiz

Hi Spizro,

Thanks for reaching out and for the information you shared. Are you getting the same result when you use your voice command to play the music instead of casting from the YouTube music app? Try to create a new home structure and add your devices there then observe if you will get a different experience. See the steps below on how to create a new home structure.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the top, tap Add Add.
  3. Tap Create new home.
  4. Follow the steps.

Note: You can have up to 5 homes in your account.

Thanks,

Juni
